Hi,

General advice requested here. The Down Fast is blocked due to a stopped train, and the Down Slow has lamp failure.

My next down service is a 222 STP-BDM. Would it be signed for using the "Hendon" goods line from West Hampstead to Mill Hill, or would I be required to talk it through the failed signals on the Down Slow?

If it's only one signal that is an issue on the Down Slow its unlikely that authority would be given for passenger trains to travel over the goods lines.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if these were classified as diversionary passing for pax or if they were goods-only.

The Hendon lines are shown as passenger lines in the Sectional Appendix, and it isn’t particularly uncommon for EM services to run over them when it’s all going wrong - there’s no additional route knowledge required.

In which case fire away with the trains. I don't know the area that well and took it at face values that the lines where actually goods lines.

I suspect that's changed over the years... IIRC they were definitely classified as goods lines when WH was first commissioned (and previously as well... as goods lines they used to use what's now the fast line bore of Belsize Tunnels, with all passenger trains funneled through what's now the slow lines bore, and they remained as goods lines when Finchley Road was remodelled in 1979/80).
