Dividing a train help please 12/01/2020 at 08:26 #122835

I am in the process of creating a 2019 timetable. There is a train that divides at a station. Both halves then depart separately onward to different destinations. I am using "train Characteristic" using a custom train of 184m(2 x 4 car emus). I know how to add the dividing activitity, spliting the rear to form a new train. What I cannot do is get the front half to depart half its length after the division. Obviously the rear train will have a new schedule that I can add the new length in. How do I reduce the first half in length? Or do I have to create two new trains?

I'm assuming that when you wrote the train TTs, the original train had the train type appropriate to the 2-unit train. The detaching train will have the train type appropriate to the 1-unit train.

The sim now takes over. The core code keeps book on the lengths of the trains in sim so after the detach each train in F2 will show as 92m. If you look at the TT of the original train in sim after the detach using F2 > Timetable > Edit Timetable, the train type will show as "Custom" and the length as 92m although looking at the TT through F4 it will still show as originally set up i.e. 184m.

Think of it as the original TT which you have written being a the fixed point from which everything starts. This data does not change unless you edit the TT. Once a train in the TT has entered the sim, then the core code keeps track of any changes and updates the in-sim data but it does not change the original TT.

If you also want the TT to show the difference between the original train and the same train after the detach you will need to create two separate TTs for the train. The first up to the point where the detach takes place where Train A will have actions DR Train B and N Train A1. Train A1 will then be written with the timings after the detach and a train type of 1-unit.

Basically it is cosmetic stuff while the sim runs on in the background using the correct lengths for each portion.

Thanks for the explanation. I have done as you state, terminated the train, split and given two new schedules. Is it possible to create Unit Types to save me using Custom settings? For example, Class 385 instead of a custom train of 92 metres.

While it would be nice for the divide to correct the length of the first portion (on my wishlist) within the sim. What the Postal said above is correct.

It should be noted, using Purley as an example, if you divide a 184m train the lead portion to Caterham will show as 184m but the Tattenham Corner portion will show correctly as 92m. However the next working of the lead portion at Caterham will be 92m - the sim has already converted the inbound to 92m so you will not get a length warning in the analysis.

If the lead portion crosses over into another sim then, that version must have the length altered as you will then get length warnings in analysis.

Yes if in the train types tabs(f4), click on new and fill in the characteristics of the train you want (category details). Then where it says description (above the train length and acceleration) delete untitled category and type eg Cl 385 4 car etc

it will then appear in your train list for you to select for a schedule
