Signal failures often happen in pairs? 28/02/2020 at 12:01 #123481

I've noticed recently that often a pair of adjacent signals fail one after another. I don't remember this particularly happening in the past, so I was wondering if it's a change in behaviour in a recent loader version?

Has anyone else noticed this?

Mike

If you're meaning that one signal fails, then the one immediately in front of it then eventually fails too. Then it's happening over a few sims.

It's already logged on mantis. #27023 (Albeit for a different sim, but can reproduce it on several others too)

Always fun when it happens. I think I had an instance in Motherwell sim where a signal failed, the preceding signal held at danger then failed, and then that one preceding that then also lost red proving! 😖

I believe it was in the cases I can recall (on Carlisle and Rugby Centre sims). This also happened in West Anglia when I was hosting last night but I don't know exactly which signals failed then.

It's a core code issue and therefore could happen on any sim.

I had it on Rugby South when I was running a Watford Junction to Rugby Central chain, it's a pain but it does give it a touch of realism although I do wonder how often it does happen in real life?

Unless real world interlockings also cycle the aspect of signal in rear of a failed signal until they go pop as well, which is what supposedly happened here - I think there's another topic on this from a while ago, here: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Forum/PostView/121066

Wouldn't surprise me if a few specific failure modes would cause something that looked similar, though.

Don't think I've ever seen such a thing in real life.
