Greetings All.
I've just downloaded SimSig and set it up with a few signalling areas in South Wales. I have purchased this as a birthday present for my grandson, so I won't be the one who uses it. So, that's why I'm struggling to get any of the programs to run. Please excuse the ignorance, but can someone tell me how to start playing any of the programs I purchased. The account and password all work, I have successfully enabled each of the Licenses, but, when I log on, I can't find any prompt that takes me to the games.

Thanks

Morgsgrandad

You need to download and install the system files from here. Once installed you can open the SimSig loader, press check for updates to download all of the simulations, and use the license manager button to allocate your licenses.

You can then start the simulation through the loader.

Note also that Licenses are owned by your account, and then allocated to a PC. You can change which PC they're allocated to, but you must log in to the license manager with your account on each PC. You'll need to either share your username and password with your grandson, so that he can allocate the licenses to his PC at a later date, or you might prefer him to set up his own account, then donate the licenses to him.

It might be worth you clarifying exactly what you intend to do with the licenses, and ensuring you know how the license system works, before allocating them to a PC. Take a look at the installation guide on the Wiki, and feel free to post questions here. You will be able to download and run the simulations in demo mode without allocating a license.

I went through those stages, when I first downloaded the programs. I allocated the licenses to my grandson's laptop under his name, but I paid for them on my own email address, but put my grandson's name as the user name. Everything was done on my grandson's laptop.
I had successfully downloaded Driver One, but, although it shows on my taskbar, when I try to open that, it doesn't recognise my email address and / or password. On the one occasion that I managed to get onto Driver One Customer Services contact, they responded by saying that I appear to have used an old version of the SimSig driver (???). It also indicates that I would have to pay a monthly subscription for Driver Updates on Driver One, which hadn't been mentioned previously.
I assumed that there would be an icon somewhere on screen, or in the taskbar / toolbar, along the lines which you describe for SimSig loader, but I can't see any sign of one.

What is "Driver One"? SimSig doesn't have any special drivers; it's a standard Windows application.

SimSig doesn't appear on the taskbar until you start it running, but it should appear on the Start menu.

It was actually called "Driver Support One", which I guess was an independent driver update provider. I think I may need to get rid of it, although they haven't got any payment details from me.

I followed the instructions from Headshot and Steamer and I've managed to get the system working. However, the licenses I had allocated were shown on the system files as being locked, so I've unlocked them. I don't know whether that was where the problem was.

To a mere mortal, like me, the screen looks impressive, but I haven't got the least idea what the user has to do to play the game. Is there an instruction manual or some other source of the information which my grandson will need to know?

In any case, you shouldn't need their services to run SimSig.

Extensive documentation is available here: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show

Take a look at the pages listed the 'Simulation Operation' on this page, and also at the relevant simulation manual.

I'd advise that he starts with a small area to get the hang of the simulation.

I started by reading the Royston tutorial.

I'd second the recommendation for Royston as a starter. Here's the tutorial swiftaw mentioned: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=simulations:royston:roystontutor

It's a bit of a read, but it should get your grandson going - if he is interested. This is, after all, a no-holds-barred simulator of a significant aspect of a highly specialised and demanding profession, in a manner of speaking.
