Given the vaunted improvements to ARS in Loader v5, and the wave of sim updates that came along with it, I've been going through some sims to see what effect these changes had. Now I've got to SwinDid, which is much improved in some previously troublesome areas, but Wootton Bassett Jn now appears to have ARS permanently confused; it consistently makes regulating decisions which are the precise opposite of what would be expected.

Attached is a snapshot illustrating this. 1L24 has just reached the junction on the Up Badminton, while 1A08 has recently entered from Bathampton, both running essentially on-time. 1L24 is scheduled to cross the junction first, and has actually reached the junction, but ARS is deferring to 1A08. Other conflicting moves across the junction, in various combinations, yield similar results.

By contrast, conflicting moves in the Thingley and Didcot areas are behaving quite well.

Mantis 31162.

Thanks for the report.

in the short term best thing to do is to manually route the trains per TT. I've ran an hour on from your save and can reproduce this in both directions.

I think this is due to the recovery times at Wootton Basset Jn. Take those out and the trains are happy.

Seems something horrible goes on in the calculation of the junction times, and ends up putting in a 00:00:00.
With that data in the decision process, ARS deems 1L24 as ' low priority untimed train' and it gives way.
Same then applies to 1A08, and it gives way to a down train somewhere east of Didcot

I'm having another issue at Wootton Bassett: If a route from the Down Main at Swindon station through Wootton Bassett to the Down Badminton is set, a train in the parcels siding going towards Bathampton Jn suddenly becomes 'off planned path' - until the main line train passes signal 40, upon which the train in the parcels siding regains its ARS status.

Old era only of course - there is no parcels siding in the modern era.

Need a save, probably from just before it does it.

This is six minutes earlier, with 3B07 already in the parcels siding (expected departure 19:00) and 1B54 approaching.

Have run the save several times with no loss of ARS status for 3B07. Is there a specific set of steps needed to make it happen, or does it happen for you every time?
Anyone else?

I have ran it and had the same affect Peter, from what I have been able to see if you set a route from Signal 40 the ARS state of 3B07 will change from "waiting for route in manual sub area" to "enough route set to 62" the routing from 62 to 164 will give a routed of planned path message.

Got it, there's an error in the ARS path coding, if ARS sub-areas are enabled it sets the Route for 3B07 from S40, not S38.
What's odd about that is that after all these years no one's found that oddity before.

Actually, on investigation it's a timetabling error, you need line code DG at Swindon and ARS should be happy.
Except it won't because there's code to restrict ARS setting certain routes in the Platform ERA which is not being initiated properly so it's manual routing only from S30>S38 and S38>S50 (and from S349/250). But as I say the ARS would work if it could with that change to the timetable.

You're still somewhat ambiguous about what exactly ARS will do if you set the line code, though if I understand you correctly it'll at least fix the wrong route messages, so I've relayed it to the TT author in the respective thread: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Forum/ThreadView/52566?postId=135101

There are actually two issues here; the primary one being the coding of the timetable. Fix that and the ARS will be happy as far as planned paths are concerned.
However, I've identified a secondary issue that means that ARS will not actually set the routes from S30 and S38 because this is subject to a condition that can never be satisfied as currently coded.

The two are completely unrelated save that they apply to the same signal by coincidence.
