I had V5.6 and clicked to update. It threw up a windows warning when it then restarted the launcher (see attached photo). I have since reinstalled the launcher twice, the second time I deleted every file in my PC. Yet neither of these attempts worked. I have tried fixes for permissions on the launcher every time but that didn't help. Any help would be gratefully received! -Alastair Post has attachments. Log in to view them. You may need to launch the Loader as an administrator (right click on the .exe and click run as administrator) and see if that shakes the problem.

In that case I would hazard a guess that directory, or file has somehow been set to be write only or something. You may need to fiddle around with the permissions on that directory.

I tried directory permissions with each reinstall of V5.6 and subsequent update of the launcher to V5.11. Even defaulting all permissions to 'Everyone' didn't fix it. I'm really at a loss. Log in to reply |

Is there a separate entry under the permissions for those directories for "SYSTEM"? This is what SimSig will be using when trying to make changes to the folder (correct me if I'm wrong here!)

There is a SYSTEM! And all permissions were enabled for it. Just installed on my laptop and it worked, tried directly copying over those files as they are to my PC but the problem returns. EDIT: Have also tried 2 other install locations on my PC, one on a separate SSD to no avail. Last edited: 08/12/2020 at 14:48 by Pond_Street Reason: None given Log in to reply |

There isn’t some AV software in the background quarantining it?

Huzah! You were right! Turns out that a really hidden feature of Avast is that its core shields sometimes block files it doesn't recognise. I didn't think it was this at first as no warning came from avast. Having added an exception for the folder location it now runs. So anyone who has avast, this seems to be the fix. Thanks all for the suggestions! Log in to reply |

I have AVAST, but fortunately do not get this problem. If I am one of the first to run a new version (because I sometimes run test versions) I can get an AVAST box saying it wants to check the file and congratulating me on finding a new programme. It then comes back about 3 minutes later after scanning it remotely and allows me to run it. Updated just now and, after letting SiSig have 'elevated privelges' straight in with no AVAST interruptions. Bill Log in to reply |
