I notice that Bristol is no longer available, despite no new loader version being released - I assume this is in relation to the upgrade to loader V5 as I successfully downloaded Gloucester last week, but why are we no longer able to download the .exe sims with no replacement?

All EXE simulations were withdrawn from being available when Loader V5 was released. Remember, the most recent of these simulations is now about a decade old, and are far from being upto modern standards. I'm sure Geoff will be able to clarify the reasoning much better than my understanding behind this. Log in to reply |

It's a massive shame to see .exe simulations withdrawn, and what makes it worse is the lack of any official notice in the download area which is likely to lead to many confused users. Whether they are up to modern standards or not, there are many of us who still get a lot of enjoyment from these sims, and I don't see what is wrong with providing them on a legacy basis with a clear warning that they are not to the latest standard. That's a damn shame. Frankly, many of the exe simulators were more fun to fun than just about anything from the loader era. South Humberside, Worksop... Log in to reply The following user said thank you: UKTrainMan |

I'm currently working through a Cambridge session at the moment - maybe I'm being a bit nostalgic but the old paged layout is a refreshing change to the loader SIM's and it is a shame that both this and other sims such as South Humberside, Bristol, Gloucester etc will not be available to new members. I really don't see why they needed to be withdrawn without loader replacements...….. Log in to reply The following users said thank you: hotwellian, UKTrainMan |

From an extremely self-centred point of view, my OCD is quite happy the old exe simulations have been taken down. Simply because I only play SimSig through the loader as the exe sims didn't work properly for me on Wine and I found it a little bit annoying that there were sims I couldn't add to my collection It's also nice to think that a few more loader conversions may be forthcoming soon. But I know that that's in hand (at least in those cases which can be done) and that those involved already know and don't need me to tell them. However, I do think the loss of such great sims as Trent, Bristol, Cambridge and others will hurt SimSig's brand image more than having some older sims there for those who are willing to take the risk Especially as they're all free (apart from Edinburgh which we know is in hand) and, indeed, many of the biggest and best free sims were the exe ones, they're quite a small percentage of loader sims these days. Since I've been using SimSig I think Hong Kong East and Oxted are the only free sims to be released, plus a conversion of Peterborough and Livepool Lime Street to Loader format. I don't mind at all, I think SimSig's well-worth the money and those involved well-worth their pay cheques. In fact, I think the ability to pay people enough that they can concentrate on SimSig is surely bearing fruit with 2 new sims just recently released and more apparently on the way. But yeah I think they make excellent demos and don't do any harm. Ah well it's not really for me to say, but do please, please keep the signal number plans available somewhere as they are absolutely excellent research materials. It's a bit of a moot point now, but I did get Edinburgh and South Humberside working on this laptop fairly recently when I wanted to check the signal numbers. However, on my old laptop the window scaling wasn't right and the bottom was cut off. Since on the paged sims that housed your views and phone and things as I recall that was kind of a deal breaker. Since then I stuck to the loader sims really and always maintained a perhaps slightly own-foot-shooting policy of not using the exe sims.I only play SimSig through the loader as the exe sims didn't work properly for me on Wine and I found it a little bit annoying that there were sims I couldn't add to my collection Log in to reply |

There has been several posts about old .exe sims recently all of which have not as far as I know been aknowledged by the SimSig team, especially in this time of strangeness and with a lot of UK people in Tier 4 meaning a lot of usual activities, making these sims available for download again would be hugely appreciated.

There are a lot of sims on the loader that will still function in tier four areas!

We've deleted a few posts from users who very unsubtly offered copies of the old exes. We do not tolerate this on this forum so please do not make any such offer, no matter how it's worded. Stephen linked to our position on the old exes so please respect that, even if you do not agree.
