Possible purchase in the near future. 07/01/2021 at 15:36 #136060

I now have a sum of money in my piggy bank which, with careful planning, would probably allow me to purchase a couple of new sims, but the problem is, which ones.
I have been hoping that a Doncaster sim might be in the offing but I'm beginning to doubt that I will ever see it.
As a consequence, I am considering alternatives, for example a Loader version of Cambridge which I understand is in development and also Crewe, again which I think is in development.
But do I wait for these or empty my piggy bank and buy something else?

Advice/suggestions welcome

Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate.

Buy something that's already available?

Wigan wallgate is a nice simple sim but with enough interest to keep you going when absolute block is turned on.

The Loader version of Cambridge is in development but don't hold your breath - it's so old it's quite a big job just to do the conversion. But it will be free when it comes out (though donations are always welcome).

In the past I've mostly stuck with the Welsh sims because I know most of the areas well. I've got one or two left to get (waiting for West Wales too), but I've started to expand my horizons. Bought Fenchurch St and Salisbury today in fact, and so far I'm loving them. Small sims, but I prefer that when going to areas where I have no knowledge whatsoever.
I bought Three Bridges and it's brilliant, but it's so massive and there's so much going on, I just felt I'd jumped right in the deep end.

I look forward to seeing it. Will the station at Cambridge North be added at the same time or will it be the existing layout as per the EXE version?

Initially it will be the same layout as the EXE was, though possibly I'll put ground frames in the appropriate places.

I am aware that both Cambridge and Peterborough need significant layout updates with multiple eras. But I don't want that to hold up Cambridge being available again.

Does this mean that the march line will still be of a simplified arrangement?

I'm not bothered either way personally. Just curious.

OK thanks for the clarification. I will look forward to the reconstitution of Cambridge and any updates which may follow.

Wolverhampton & Coventry are great sims for similar reasons too, area is not too big so ideal for single player mode, plenty of trains[but not mental] to keep you occupied, & a couple of level crossings, plus the area fits onto screen perfectly[even a 17 inch screen] that your not doing too much scrolling

I've also enjoyed Huddersfield as a 1 player with enough to think about (platform juggling etc).

Leeds Northwest is another good one, stuff to do and regulate etc, and with a few failures on can be quite an interesting challenge
