I have a question about the specific update that Horsham received back on the 25th June 2020 to be more precise it was Mantis 0027350 that stated Three Bridges chaining added. Now as far as I am aware neither Horsham or Three Bridges can or will chain to each other for whatever the reason may be however is not the this Mantis update slightly misleading because to the common user like myself, it appears that we can now chain the two simulations together which is a good thing. However I've just tried to chain both together on a single device and I get the error message saying those signalboxes do not chain together so I'm confused. So can someone please clairy exactly what the update was for please and what it was meant to do? Released 25th June 2020 0027350 Log in to reply |

Chaining doesn't appear to be working at the moment, this is already Mantis 31173, which applies to the latest releases of both simulations (V1.4 for both).

A little background which might help clear things up. For two simulations to chain together, both need to have all of the information available. At a high level we need some EXT data, which is what populates the options in Multiplayer > Connect To External Signalbox in the user interface, it also has some data for the two simulations to perform a handshake, so that say Sandhills (ML) knows it has connected to Wigan Wallgate, and not to Chester when you perform the connection. At a lower level, we need to share all the appropriate items between the two simulations, so signals, berths, track circuits etc. Each object is owned by a simulation. Back on the Sandhills & Wigan Wallgate example, ML148 appears on both simulations, but it's owned by Sandhills, as in real life it's a Sandhills signal, when chained the Wigan simulation gets all it's instructions for this signal from Sandhills. Now then Mantis 27350 was a ticket against Horsham, to add the lower level information into Horsham needed to chain to Three Bridges, and to adjust the EXT data so that it read as "Three Bridges" and not "Gatwick" as it did originally. The equivalent data was added into Three Bridges, but this was done after the version 1.4 update for it, so they won't chain together till under version 1.5 or above is released. TL;DR from what I can see from a quick skim of the data history, no they've never chained together in public released versions. I can see why some confusion has arisen from what's been written in the change log for Horsham, and I've just edited it to hopefully add some clarity. The change logs are generated from the ticket name on Mantis, occasionally ones like this slip out that don't make total sense just from the ticket name. Now these two simulations aren't looked after by me, so I can't give a timescale for a resolution, but I have flagged it for a review.
