Returning Oldie, and Royston help request 03/04/2021 at 14:38 #138322

Hello everyone! I just re-downloaded SimSig after a couple of years and I'm rediscovering how much I enjoyed it. Shame it appears Cambridge isn't part of it anymore, I liked that one. But there are other great areas to run too.

I'm from the USA, in Oregon.

I have a small problem on Royston. 6R02 arrived early and reversed back into the Royston Down Siding as planned. Now, however, I can't seem to get it to go into the Sherriff's Siding and get off my train list. I'm now past the time that it's scheduled to make this move. I've tried lighting the shunt signal, nothing. The train hasn't called me at all. Any tricks?

Been a long time since I played Royston, but I believe you have to call the Shunter and tell them there is a train waiting to go into Sheriff's. After that, click K249 and K253, the route should turn white and the train should enter Sheriff's because you called the shunter (who sets the points by hand).

I think that's how it worked. Sorry. I need to refresh my memory for that one lol.

I think you're right, but I've got to refresh my memory as well - it's a while since I (re)wrote it.

I'm glad you did: it was my first big sim (Royston was how I learned to write sims).

The good news is that I am converting it to Loader (it's so old that it's a major exercise). The bad news is that it's a slow process.

Hey, that's awesome! I would love to play it again, but for now I'm enjoying my old favorites (Royston, Saltley, and Exeter).

Thanks for the tip on the shunter, I will give it a try next time I'm on. Can't seem to find how to show signal numbers though.

You can't generally. A very small number of sims have the option to toggle signal numbers on and off. Salisbury is one, there aren't many others.

Signal number plans however are provided as part of the manual for each sim.

On a signal-by-signal basis you can also find out the identity of each signal by right-clicking on it. Or, if you have things set up so that right click cancels the route, you will need to hold shift and then right click.
