Problem when trying to load old format TTs 21/12/2021 at 22:20 #143062

Evening!

Yes, I'm aware that this issue has been brought up many of times before.

I tried following the tutorial posted here: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Forum/ThreadView/47615?postId=106991
and here: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Forum/ThreadView/48859?postId=110013

without any luck.

The TT I want to play is the 1922 North Wales Coast timetable.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Download the .WTT file from https://www.SimSig.co.uk/File/Details/700
2. Started a new game with no timetable and no scenarios selected. Started the simulation paused.
3. In the timetable menu I clicked on "Open (Merge with current)".
4. Choose the North Wales 1922.WTT file and loading it. Tells me the "timetable merged successfully".
5. In the timetable menu, I click on "Save timetable" and give it the new name 1922.WTT
6. Exit the simulation
7. Start a new sim, using my 1922.WTT TT.

And now I get the error message: "Not a SimSig timetable".

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I really appreciate all the help I can get!

Do you have both timetables in the same folder? I would suggest to move the old one elsewhere as its file name might clash with the new one's given name (in the timetable editor.)

Thanks for the tips!

Unfortunately it didn't work. Might the be something wrong with the 1922 timetable? I will test with some other timetables as well!

Problem confirmed.

The resulting savedtimetable.xml is not in xml, yet the timetable in sim looks OK (if rather heavy on errors).

saved game attached - which gives some clue when reloaded 'Cannot load file XML parser error raised with message : Invalid unicode character line 38289 <Description 0710 from Holywell To'.

Suspect original wtt has some dodgy characters in it, does not look normal in notepad either

Thank you for the help! I tried the same with the 1981 scenario. Worked perfectly! Think I will just play that TT then, if there's alot of errors on the 1922 timetable!

If it's just one character in a train description you could edit the XML with Notepad, save it and re-load. SimSig will then complain that the file has been edited because its checksum doesn't match but if you save again you should get rid of that.

It is 6H02 that causes the problem. So can be fixed in TT editor if reloaded from the old wtt file.

Then seems to load OK - attached
