Penrith bug? 21/06/2022 at 23:13 #146911

G'day all,

Firstly my thanks to all involved with the release of the two new Aussie sims: I have just been doing a bit of time on Penrith and St. Marys which I find is quite manageable across two screens with two views.

Secondly I think I have found a bug with Penrith which involves the track circuits where trains head from Platform 3 into 1-3 Down Yard (T/C T343AT and T/C TDSAT). The sequence leading up to this was as follows:

1. Train 97-T arrived at Platform 2 for a crew change. I gave the route from signal 100/97 to signal 34.5 in the forlorn hope that the crew change would be done and 97-T gone before W599 got to Penrith: this proved not to be the case.

2. Route was set for W599 from signal 34.1 to signal 34.3 which was ok and W599 went into P3. The track circuit overlap after 34.3 went into 1-3 Down Yard which was fine although only half of track circuit TDSAT went white and I think the track onto the bottom part of the crossover, where the crossover joins TDSAT, failed to join which I thought was a bit odd.

3. I then decided to let W599 go first to avoid undue delay while 997-T did its crew change so I cancelled the route for 97-T from signal 100/97 to 34.5. Once the 120-second approach locking had expired I then set the route for W599 to signal 34.5 from 34.3. The points on track circuit T343AT changed over and signal 34.3 went green. However the crossover to 1-3 Down Yard remained white as if a route had been set over it as did track circuit TDSAT (see penrith1.bmp) but I would have expected TDSAT and the crossover to go back to grey on the screen as if no route had been set over them. At this point I saved the game.

4. W599 departed Penrith P3: track circuits T343AT and TDSAT went back to show no route set over them once W599 had cleared the junction into 1-3 Down Yard from Penrith P3. (see penrith2.bmp)

I attach the game save referred to and I also attach, in case the error I think I found here does not repeat, screenshots for reference. This bug seems to be non-urgent as it does not affect the playability of the game but I thought I would pass it on. An excellent sim though and I look forward to spending more time on it when the chances arise (ie. when work permits!).

Cheers,
Dave

Well spotted Dave

Mantis 31622 already under investigation - this kind of thing may happen whenever you bring a train to a stand within the overlap of more than one signal.

No worries. If that is the case though then how come if I set a route at Penrith from signal 34.2 to signal 34.0 then the route which shows as having been set extends all the way to signal 33.6?

Likewise if I set a route from 33.9 to 34.1 then the route which shows as having been set extends to signal 34.3.

Some quirk of Aussie signalling things I guess but an interesting one nonetheless.

Those are overlaps beyond the "to" signals you mention. Bear in mind some of these signal sections are short but still need full length overlaps which may extend all the way to the next signal - or even beyond. The white signal post indicates that a route is set, so if it's grey then there is no route.
