I've had 6D39 come onto Mossend Rec 2, for the detachment of 0S00. The train arrives onto Rec 2 and I've cleared MY311 while the train is dividing. The 0S00 has divided and departed, but MY311 does not return to danger.

This also prevents MY321 signal onto Rec 2 clearing, and you can't talk the train by because it gets stuck and stops.

In the end I had to use F11 and pause, to allow the route onto Rec 2 to set. Immediately on unpausing MY311 clears again and MY321 signal doesn't clear and 0D39 had to be talked onto Rec 2 (which only worked now because the route was in).

6D39 has departed but MY311 still will not return to danger.

From the manual

Quote:
All eras: Trains entering the Down yard from Down Reception 1 & 2 are controlled by signals MY311 and MY309: these are fixed Reds with a PL controlled by Mossend Yard Control. For Sim purposes the user must left click on the relevant signal in lieu of the controller. After a random period of time (up to 10 mins) the signal will clear. After the train has entered the controller may or may not remember to restore the signal switch. If they forget then you can phone and request the reset.

Occasionally the shunter will 'forget' to replace those signals. When one of them doesn't return to stop, a phonecall becomes available to remind the shunter about it

"Occasionally"?!

The one gripe I have with the Motherwell sim is the total uselessness of the Down Yard shunters when it comes to the signals in question here. I started a new game of the 1984 TT recently, and I'm keeping a score of how the shunter does when I send trains into the Down Yard. I'm up to 13.20, and so far I have sent a total of 22 trains into the yard. On 17 of those occasions the shunter did not replace the signal to danger. That's a shocking 77% of signals just forgotten about over a 13 hour period.

Is there any chance the sim could be tweaked in such a way that the shunter only forgets a couple of times a day? Or maybe just remove that feature altogether? It can't be prototypical of a normal day's work that the shunter is so busy that they forget that many times, and this comes from a railway worker who is used to signallers forgetting about his trains on a regular basis

Less about forgetting to replace it, more about having their hands full with yard work, meaning they don't work the panel unless absolutely necessary.

Theres certainly several locations I can think of where the shunters cabin is inconveniently placed, meaning the ground staff have a long walk back and forwards between work to the point they park certain activities until after they've handled several trains before returning to the cabin.

A more prototypical implementation might be for the signal to be replaced either after a chase call OR after a random period of time has passed. Ie the shunter always remembers, but sometimes gets sidetracked and only replaces it later on when he has a free moment.

Perhaps Peter can say if difficulty level is a factor here ?

When writing & testing '1984' (usually running in perfect mode) I do not recall more than a couple of phone calls to get the shunters to reset.

There's a 7:8 chance of the signal being restored without prompting.
Remember that each time is a statistically independent event so it's entirely possible (albeit improbable) for the same outcome to occur every time the command is triggered; in the same way as it's possible for the same numbers to be drawn in the National Lottery every week for the past 30 (or whatever it is) years.

On that basis Lazzer should give the lottery a miss !

https://www.danielsoper.com/statcalc/calculator.aspx?id=69

p = 0.125
S = 17
A = 22

0.00000000 to 8 decimal places !

However do be aware there is a delay even if they do remember to replace the signal - possibly random but around 5 minutes maybe ?
