It's been nearly three years since @Istant reported that the debugging areas of Stafford are visible in the normal release version, and also again reported by @elltrain3 about a month later.

SimSim prides itself on producing quality simulations, going as far as making older simulations obsolete as they didn't meet standards. Why has Stafford slipped the net in this regard? I'm honestly surprised it was able to be released in this state, and no effort has visibly been made to recify it, bar opening Mantis 30836 which cannot be viewed by Joe Public - no status update has been provided either.

I understand it's a free simulation, but I'd argue that people use the free simulations to weigh up purchasing other simulations. Stafford has these debug areas visible, Hong Kong East has issues in certain eras and Derby has had it's fair share of issues too (though I'm glad to see it's being overhauled currently)

It would be good to know where some simulations stand in terms of support and activity.

I'm not at the computer to delve too far into the forum to link you to it, but I gave an overview regarding Derby and Stafford in a thread regarding where a similar question was asked about Derby.

Stafford is also receiving work behind the scenes as is Derby as you mention.

I appreciated the efforts on the work on improving Derby sim

But I must admit I got the impression that Staffordshire sim replaced Stafford sim but anyway, looking forward to the improved versions of Stafford and Derby.

I like to think that Staffordshire and Stafford are much the same thing as Wembley Mainline and Euston in that they represent a different period of time.

I did a lot of work on Stafford recently and I think the residual issue was chaining between Wolverhampton and Stafford/Staffordshire which involves three different Developers and then it all fell down the back of my virtual sofa.

Ahh that’s great news about Stafford. I must have missed that particular post, as I did know about the Derby work.

I must suggest though for the sake of transparency that we could have a page probably in the wiki where there’s a development status of each sim. It doesn’t need to be in much detail, but even brief statuses such as “Stable, no changes planned”, “Improvements planned”, “Improvements in progress” would be a helpful resource.

I obviously don’t know how management feels about that, but I feel it would be useful from a user’s pov.

I seem to remember this being suggested some time ago, but I don’t think that anything came of it. Actually, you contributed to the discussion. Have a look at this link.

Seems a bit pointless - a sim is either supported or it isn’t. If a sim wasn’t stable it wouldn’t be released in that form and any issues which are raised by users can be seen for progression now that there are links with Mantis when the ticket number is posted.

The gist of your complaint seems to be that the debug area was visible on the public release. Whilst that shouldn’t be the case it won’t stop the sim working (unless you mess with some items in it that were put there for testing purposes) and nothing new has been logged for some time.

Making changes to old simulations is like opening the proverbial can of worms, as was found with Derby where a few outstanding bug fixes quickly escalated into major background work for Karl, all of which is having to be thoroughly tested before it can be released. Stafford is older than Derby being paged originally, and would undoubtedly be the same.
