Thought I would fire up the old paged Cambridge SIM with the 1977 tt and was surprised to receive a message at about 10:30 (ish) that a bridge strike had occurred and all trains were to be stopped in the area.

A couple of questions :-
1) What is the likelihood of receiving this message....? - I have never seen this before despite playing this sim a lot over the years so it must be pretty rare and be set to a very low probability in the software.
2) Does this event occur on any of the other Sims....?
3) After a period of time, a further message appeared saying that a temp speed restriction had been set up. I assume that the affected track sections will have the speed restriction automatically applied by the Sim, but as this is pre GSM days, for realism should I be stopping all trains and cautioning them.....? If so, how do I know which track section(s) are affected.....?

This is a new one for me, despite playing this sim for over 10 years...... I have looked in the Wiki page for the Sim and also the forum entries, but this does not seem to be mentioned.

Thanks

1. You have to have one of the hard settings selected. The probability is then 1 in 40 or 1 in 10 depending on the level selected.
2. This was the very first. I don't know if any other sims have bridge strikes, but I believe some have similar things like aircraft trip wires.
3. Yes, the TSRs are installed by the sim and yes, you should be stopping and cautioning, though the sim won't check if you don't. The locations should be obvious from the message, but I suppose I could dig out the track circuits involved at some point.

Nothing is in the manual because I kept it hidden. I dropped vague hints about a "feature X" but never said anything more. I fondly remember the day there was a forum message saying something like:

"What the ...? Bridge strike?!?!"

That was probably one or two forums ago, so it might not be findable.
