Yesterday I fired up the Doncaster South 1991 timetable. It’s really good and I set the various failures higher than I usually do to give added interest. As most people will know, there were a number of coal pits in the Doncaster area, plus Thorpe Marsh power station. Pity that they all closed and are therefore not in the modern era sims. Talking of which, in this 1991 timetable there is a branch line from Barkston South Jn. near Grantham to Sleaford. When did that close? The new curve formed a triangle allowing trains to run from Grantham on the Nottingham line, then turn right towards Sleaford, replacing the curve at Barkston. This allows the local services to serve Grantham without using the ECML, reducing congestion.
