If July 2016 was 823 years away, I'd be tempted to believe it! This does actually, of course, occur whenever 1st July falls on a Friday - so, averaged over a longer period, one in seven years?

The "money bags" event last occurred in October 2010. One of my family received the Feng Shui e-mail then. He is an accountant so by nature is a sceptic (and I'm just awkward) so we put our heads (and our Excel) together and worked out that there would be 825 occurrences of the "money bags" event in the 823 years following October 2010. According to the figuring we did then, July is the only occurrence this year. Over the next few years, we think that the number of 31 day months with the "money bags" event is 2012 0 occurrence 2013 1 occurrence 2014 1 occurrence 2015 1 occurrence 2016 2 occurrences 2017 1 occurrence 2018 0 occurrence 2019 1 occurrence “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

Please do not forward any chain letters on this forum. In fact, please don't forward them at all. You might want to check any chain letter at www.snopes.com before believeing it. As for this one, there are only 14 possible calendars for a year: January 1st can be on any of the 7 days of the week, and the year can be leap or non-leap. The 7 non-leap calendars occur in *about* equal numbers, and the 7 leap calendars occur in *about* equal numbers. [The cycle repeats every 400 years, with 303 non-leap and 97 leap years. Since neither number is divisible by 7, they can't be exactly equal numbers. One effect of this is that the 13th is more likely to be a Friday than any other day of the week.] The 5 Friday, 5 Saturday, 5 Sunday case happens when a 31 day month begins on a Friday. There are 7 31-day months in a year, and their start days are related: if Mar 1 is a Monday, May 1 is a Saturday, Jul 1 is a Thursday, Aug 1 is a Sunday, Oct 1 is a Friday, and Dec 1 is a Wednesday. If it's not a leap year, Jan 1 is also a Friday; if it is a leap year, Jan 1 is a Thursday. So we can see that roughly 1 year in 7 has two of these 5-5-5 months, 5 years in 7 have one, and 1 year in 7 have none. If there are two, they are January (so you can spot these years because Jan 1 is a Friday) and either October (in non-leap years) or July (in leap years). Log in to reply |

Sorry, it was not meant to be a chain letter. Admin, could you deal with it accordingly. Barry Barry, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Log in to reply |

Is there a bug in the Joomla code? Clive wrote the section that Barry quotes, but it has appeared under my name.

It's easy to modify the text anyway (see who posted the above). BarryM said: Sorry, it was not meant to be a chain letter.
