I was inspired to put this together tonight. Aside from the issues with implementing speed signalling I think this could be a nice small simulation, since it can fit on a single screen but includes significant complexity. Mainline trains of various speeds, interfacing with local trains in peaks, runs in and out of the depot, and a freight train up to twice a day that comes in from the left, terminates, splits, then shunts each half separately into the top siding for unloading before reassembling and departing. There would be just under 200 train movements in each direction each day; 150 through stopping trains, 20 expresses (mix of regional passenger, freight and suburban), and the balance local trains either suburban terminating, or in/out of the yard, or freight. For extra variation, Westall station is the normal terminating point if/when bus replacements are required either towards Dandenong or towards Melbourne. Post has attachments. Log in to view them.
