Hi,
I am wanting to replicate what you’d hear at a real signallers workstation with the available GSMR sounds in the downloads section. That said, I’ve no idea what audio cues a real signaller gets! Can anyone enlighten me? This is an idea I’ve thought of…

When train is first waiting at signal and wants to make you aware, I get a GSMR “Standing at signal” beep.

Then, after that, if the driver has to ring me again, I get the GSMR phone ringing sound.

I’ve tried to assign it myself but the GSMR phone ringing seems to happen every time rather than the signal beep which I want first. Sometimes there is no sound at all.

If anyone can give me a step by step that would be brilliant! Thanks in advance

The ringtone is on this video - https://youtu.be/1e_9g4VDVgI?si=lHCmgq0Dl_2E_S-X

The text message sound is on this video - https://youtu.be/bJtykH568g0?si=TMT4LHBC1BSs12Mc&t=171

The Frequentis DICORA fixed terminal can make a few other sounds but they're not relevant for Simsig. I've heard a rumour that there is a project about to kick off to replace the terminals with a more up to date version but I don't know any more than that.

You can assign sounds in F3 'Options' menu under tab 'Messages'.

In my configuration, I used 'GSM-R.wav' (GSM-R ringing) sound for a 'General telephone message'.

Additionally, there's the event 'Train waiting at red signal'.
If the 'Disable' checkbox is ticked, you have to untick it.
Then you can assign sound 'GSMR Standing at Signal.wav' (GSMR Beep) to this event.

I hope that should work as you expect it..

Thank you! That was just what I was after. I missed the general telephone call option.

Yes the railway needs to modernise from its GSM-R, which is basically a 2G radio system, to a new 5G FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communictions System). They need it for increased safety, increased data rates, and cloud based architecture of 4G. Europe are aiming for 2025. The last I heard for this country, that like the old Cab Secure Radio, GSM-R and FRMCS will have to work alongside each other whilst systems are upgraded, signalling and traction stock. Dread to think of the cost involved in this after hearing of the Class 700 debarcle to just upgrade communications software. But knowing the UK railways, they will take a half hearted attitude towards it and we will still have 19th century techhnology working alongside a 21st Century so called digital railway. High tech communications system, whilst some Signallers still use a technology designed because no other communications system existed. Ding Ding!

Professionalism mean nothing around a bunch of Amateur wannabees!

I think it’ll be a long time before we see FRMCS commissioned in the UK but in the short term the current ‘DICORA S’ terminals are heading for the bin shortly to be replaced by a modern equivalent as they’re obsolete and spares are very difficult to get hold of (as with everything digital on the railway, see also IECC classic workstations…)
