In the sim there is a 10 mph speed limit applying to all trains between Carlisle and Currock Junction. Playing a modern timetable for the first time today, I've noticed passenger trains seems to lose about a minute and a half between Carlisle and Dalston. In the 80s timetable the timings seemed correct though. Sim bug, or simply an impossible timetable (I know that happens IRL as well). Out of curiousity, if correct, what's the reason for such a low speed limit? I'm not familiar with the area in real life at all. Swedish driver and part-time signaller Log in to reply |

Very sharp curve just out of the station. Whether the restriction extends all the way to Currock I don't know without more digging. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply |

According to the NR Sectional Appendix (dated October 2009), the speed limit is 20mph from Carlisle Station (69m 09ch) to just beyond Carlisle South Junction (27m 43ch), where the line speed then drops to 10mph (due to the curve/clearances as shown in the photo posted above by Bill). The line speed is 10mph up to 27m 20ch on the approach to Currock Jn, where the line speed then increases to 20mph over the junction to 26m 74ch (just after the pointwork where the routes from the Down/Up M&C goods join) before increasing to 60mph.

Thanks, seems to be correct then. Speaking of 10 mph speed limits, the connection from the Down Main to the Down Goods at Caldew Junction seems to be 10mph in the down direction only. In the up direction it's 25mph onto both the Up and Down Mains. Swedish driver and part-time signaller Log in to reply |
