I remember using the early Simsig Simulations that you had to flick the mouse left or right to jump screens, Cambridge and North London Line were like that. So when Simsig developed scrolly I thought fantastic. It made playing Simsigs like South Humberside and Tyneside more enjoyable and manageable. My favourite being London Bridge ASC, not just because I signalled it in real life.

However, I have noticed increasingly that the height of layouts are starting to exceed my screen. I just looked at the Sydney NSW Simsig and think it looks great, similar in fact to London Bridge ASC in some aspects. However, it does not fit within the height of my screen. For that reason, I will not purchase it as it is too fiddley and annoying to keep moving up and down to see the layout. I use two 32" Curved screens and most layouts fit.

Am I missing something? Is there a way of resizing the layout to fit the screen height with out constant scrolling up and down? I have no intention of getting more screens as it would be like having the workstation of 2x4 widescreen montior bank I worked with at TBROC.

Professionalism mean nothing around a bunch of Amateur wannabees!

With Sydney it is impossible to fit within our normal height guidelines. Steve has actually reduced the height from the original sketches by chopping Central station and the eastern suburbs across the 'A' divide.

But we do have height (and width) guidelines. While I'm accussed of making things too compressed, some other developers' sims start out way too wide - I only use a single screen so it's clear to me when the latter happens. We just have to find a happy medium, given the plethora of screen sizes out there.

What other sims exceed your screen height? It's always useful to have data like this for us.

As an aside, it might be useful information to add to the documentation, that is, what dimensions (in pixels) are needed to view the layout in its entirety without the need for scrolling.

For example, I have two 3840x2160 displays, so I can view a sim of 7680x2160 without scrolling. That works for about 90% off all sims, although there a few that are slightly too long. For those, rather than scrolling, I usually open a second view and stack them vertically.

I have 2x NEC MultiSync E223W (same as are used in some of the SCC/IECC locations I believe?) which are 1680x1050 each giving me a total of 3360x1050 pixels. Works well with many layouts but there are some that I have to stack which makes it difficult on larger sims. I just arrange the layout as best I can though.

For those of us that are a bit less techy, don't forget that if the Sim exceeds your vertical screen height, you can scroll vertically within the Sims very easily by holding down the shift key when turning the mouse wheel. My screens are only 1080 pixels high and this works fine for me on the larger sims - you just have to remember to scroll up and down, as well as left to right.

You can also hide the windows task bar at the bottom of the screen to give you a bit more space - just right click on an empty section of the bar and select 'taskbar Settings', and then select the 'Taskbar Behaviours', and then finally tick the 'Automatically hide the taskbar' option.

Hope that helps.

1080 is also my effective screen height which is approximately 55 SimSig rows. Our Style Manual already advises to keep it to 54 maximum - though, again, Sydney Central and Birmingham New Street cannot reasonably fit within that height without making them look really cramped.

Windows screen Scale is the answer here.

As Screen resolution has increased everything on the screen has gotten smaller. Windows doesn't like this so changes the Scale of the screen to reduce the effective resolution. To display more on the screen just reduce the screen Scale. It's in the Display Settings.

Example: On my old Win10 Laptop the Screen resolution is 1080. Windows by default uses a Scale of 150% so the effective resolution is 720. I change the scale to 100% and get actual 1080.

Example: On my Win11 machine the screen resolution is 1440. Windows by default uses a Scale of 200% so the effective resolution is 720. I change the scale to 150% and get actual 1080.

Changing the scale even smaller will allow any Sim height to be fully on the screen.

Hopefully helpfull.
