I am writing a Signaller application for a Roblox railway game. Still, the thing is that the driver can contact you with almost anything (even though contacting someone without a valid reason is illegal). I would like to know the best answers to this question. Someone please help.

They are supposed to contact the Signaller to report anything that is causing a delay.

Drivers will also report items that are not delaying them directly as they have already passed or are passing a problem that could affect the safe running of other trains e.g. Rough ride (track defect), OHLE defects such as detached droppers, lineside fires, flooding, animals on or near the line, trespassers, signalling defects, trains on other lines with signs of dragging brakes, hot axle boxes, insecure loads, no tail lamps or headlamps etc.

All of this now is a lot easier with GSMR than it was in the past, I remember when cab riding a class 86 on a Norwich service one of my colleagues noticed approaching Marks Tey on the Down line that an 86 on an up Norwich had a damaged pantograph (a chip in the carbon strip that collects the current from the OHLE contact wire, the contact wire can get caught in the gap potentially damaging the OHLE) we reported it as soon as we could at the Colchester station stop to be told sorry it is to late the Up train had brought the wires down at Witham. with GSMR we could probably have prevented that.

Reason: explanation of the damage to the pantograph

Don't forget that the signaller may also get calls from station staff; this could be a number of items from requesting a line blockade to retrieve a item of property dropped on the track, reporting trespassers on the line, reporting a train not displaying red lights on the rear (only showing white lights), requesting a specific platform to be used that day, reporting a item wrapped around the OHL etc...

The signallers don't just deal with drivers but a whole range of frontline staff including both trackside staff and station staff.
