New licence system please 24/08/2024 at 11:59 #158284

I'm sorry but the current licence system is not fit for purpose. Again and again on multiple PCs the current system kicks me out Licence Removed or Licence Lost. I was chaining 4 sims locally and because of this I now have to restart and rechain all 4 sims and wait for the licence system to fail again. I am on a solid high speed broadband connection which remained connected. I have complained multiple times on the forum but there are still no changes after several years. I understand the upper hierarchy have a developers licence so are not bothered by this bug, its just the customers who pay out who have to put up with it. I hope you can help and finally sort this out

Tester/developers licences are actually more susceptible to dropping out because you can't lock them to a machine. You 100% have to have a stable connection to run using one.

Have you tried locking your licences to your machine to see if it makes a difference? You shouldn't have to if your Internet is stable but that would be my first port of call.

A 2-minute warning that connectivity was lost with the license server would be nice. The "Lost License" does tend to cause a somewhat abrupt halt to proceedings.

The server was down for around an hour this morning from about 1130 which would explain why you experienced difficulties.

Apologies for the inconvenience caused. It wasn't something that you could've been forewarned about, but locking the license to your machine would help prevent some of the issues you seem to be having.

Personally I think it is a little strong to say that the licenses are not fit for purpose. Largely, they are fine.

We live in a rural area and having the internet drop out is quite a common feature of life here. As others have suggested, the simple remedy of locking the license to your machine means that the SIM will carry on working whether the internet is on or not.

Good luck with it!

I agree the licence system is frustrating. Despite locking my licences to my machine, if I am not able to connect I'll get the sudden drop out about 5-10 minutes after waking up the laptop, but it's not consistent and at any rate the licence is locked to the machine! It's very frustrating when resuming play. The only alternative is to close down SimSig (which doesn't save window lay outs) and then open it fresh every time but then the locked licence doesn't always work.

Please note though that the link that this link leads to is software that isn't supported by Simsig.

Thank you both, I do use the tool but it is unofficial, it hasn't been updated in years and so misses some features (line ups for example) and doesn't support multiple views of one type. That's fine if it wasn't for the looming risk of licence closing the game every time I wake my laptop, or having to close and open it 2 times a day.

I did say alleviate, not solve!

It certainly is helpful for getting things sorted a little quicker!
