Running through the simulation I have noticed an error on a couple of signals in the Scunthorpe area. S365 (first Down signal after Appleby) and S334 (Up Main Scunthorpe station are depicted on the sim as being 3 aspect signals when in reality they are 4 aspect signals.

According to my diagrams of the area, S334 is a 3 aspect controlled signal. Scunners appears to be a bit of a mixture between 3 and 4 aspects though.

If S334 is the one on the platform end at Scunny it is definitely 4 aspect.

There is one 4 aspect (S331) on the platform on the Down Main. There are two signals (S334 & S239) (bidirectional) on the platform on the Up Main which are both 3 aspect.

Given that by your photo, Postal, and my diagrams both agree that S329 is a 3 aspect, I'm pretty sure that S334 is a 3 aspect as well.

i would say that 329 is a filament lamp 3A signal while 334 appears to be a LED 4A signal.

edit: my diagram also shows them to be 3A but i guess things can change

I agree - I'm sure S334, pre-LED, was clearly a 4-aspect signal.

I've scoured Google for images, and can only find it showing G,Y&R. I agree it seems unlikely to fit a head capable of showing 4 aspects and using it as a 3 aspect sig, but it has happened before.

My diagrams show both signals as 3-aspect as well. I can see it makes no sense for S334 to be 3-aspect as it has 4-aspect signals both in advance and in rear of it. S365 is slightly different as it's the first Scunthorpe signal from after Appleby. The previous signal A4 is a 3-aspect and the signal after is 4-aspect (S363). However, bear in mind also the sim is built with the signalling as it was before the re-sig at Appleby and Elsham when the crossings were updated.

I have repeatedly remarked that I have worked in and through the Scunthorpe area for over 30 years, so I am well qualified to make reference to the extant signals in the area - and to the various moves capable of being made therein.

I will not alter from my stance that both signals S334 and S365 were and still are capable of displaying 4 aspects, although in recent years these may bave had the old filament heads replaced with the fibre-optic type. However, in the case of S334, the photo shown in an earlier posting clearly shows that it is a twin-lens fibre optic type capable of 4 aspects.

I am somewhat confused as to the relevance of Appleby's A4 signal as to S365. It is true that A4 is a 3 aspect head, but this has no bearing on how many aspects S365 has. There are numerous occasions throughout the country where previous signals to 4 aspects have been 3 aspects. Suffice it to say that S365 is and always has been 4 aspect.

My diagrams show both 334 and 365 as three-aspect signals only. If they are not then someone needs to write to Network Rail and Volker Rail to tell then they're actually 4 aspect!

The sim was made to the data I had. However, both signals were changed some time ago to be as you stated.

Mickster, I was given more data at the meet and they all showed the signal at Scunny station as a three aspect which is most weird. So I have 4 or 5 pieces of data that all show it as a three aspect. Most weird. The last is data as far as I can tell is from '06. Do you know when that signal was swapped for the LED type it is now?

It would have been about 3-4 years ago when the LED head was put on S334 I think, although they are only replacement heads. The signal has always been 4 aspect as long as I can remember. I have a plan at home from when the box first opened, i'll have a look later to see what it is shown as on there out of interest.

The resignalling notice from 1973 when the mechanical boxes covering the station area to Appleby were resignalled shows S334 as a 4 aspect.

If both those signal were 3 aspect, then where the heck have I been driving? I was based at Scunthorpe from 1974 to 1981 and fromm 1981 til 2007 at Immingham - on the footplate. Throughout all that time, these signals have both been capable of displaying 4 aspects!

Both signals were updated and the test version used at the meet had them correctly as 4-aspects was originally pointed out.
