A thought went through my mind today about the ERTMS on the Cambrian Line. Is it possible to cover the area on Simsig? "Signalman Exeter" Log in to reply |

I've actually been to the control centre at Machmumble, courtesy of the IRSE. It's mostly single track with not a huge amount of traffic really (think of setting a route once every 10 minutes). There seemed to be more work coming from the multitude of crossings. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

I thought about the West Highland Line (and the lines out of Inverness) but, as Geoff says, given the traffic flow you'd probably only have around 4 trains running at one one time on long single tracks- bit of excitment at Crianlarich I guess every 4 or so hours. Must have been a cushie number being the signaller at say Dalmally; bit more effort required at Arrochar! Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

No hang on I'm thinking of RETB....... ignore my ramblings! ERTMS seems to be some European fandango so loses my vote. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

ERTMS im not sure of but the cambrian could be done "RETB" easy enough either subsitituing TCB in with 2 aspect starting signals representing the driver having the token. or else actual token working in the style of how the portbury branch is signalled on bristol. but of course its all single track for a reason and will get incredibly boring apart from a couple of shunts at macynleth in the morning and evening "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply |

Yes RETB should be do-able in some form fairly easily. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

the true cambrian in the 1950s was Oswestry Traffic flow on the Shrewsbury - Barmouth Junction is pretty much the same minus the Freight traffic. Log in to reply |

Of course, as Roger Ford and Alan Williams never tire of saying in Modern Railways, ERTMS has yet to be implemented anywhere. What we have on the Cambrian is ETCS - which has only two of the key pillars of ERTMS. But I know I'm on a losing battle! Rob Log in to reply |
