Does anyone know the regional internal head codes use on the former Western Region.

I know the following

A - London
B - Bristol
C - Exeter, Plymouth
F - Swansea
H - Brmingham & Gloucester Districts
J - Shrewsbury District
T - Newport and Cardiff

Anyway, what it is I am getting to here, is does anyone know the letter used for Swindon (Swindon and Didcott), Westbury (Or is Westbury considered Southern Region), Cornwall (or is that covered by Plymouth and Exeter), Reading (Or does Reading come under London)

If there are any more again in the Western Region that I have not covered here, please could you let me know.

Reading I believe comes under London as an 'A' headcode, Westbury is west but anything south of Wilton Jn/Yeovil Pen Mill is Southern Region.

Most if not all Devon/Cornwall stuff is 'C' and possibly some locals around Bristol/Westbury too.
'A' was used also in 1981 for Exeter - Newton Abbot locals and maybe some others too that someone may be able to clarify...

Regards,

James.

Bristol comes under C as does Westbury

South Wales is B for down trains and up trains are L. Swindon is B or it always used to be

Gloucester/Cheltenham is now G for Down Trains and L for Up

Worcester/Malvern/Hereford is now W for Down and I think A for up

Devon/Cornwall is C for Down and A for Up

Didcot is A as it was in the London District and the same for Reading

It goes back to the old divisions within the Western Region. In the latter days it would have been:

A - London division

B - Cardiff division

C - West of England division

In the earlier days the divisions covered even smaller areas known as traffic districts.
