Hey, looking for some pointers. I started on Royston and have picked up the basics and wanted to try something slightly more challenging so I downloaded Exeter, but I'm having a few problems. I still cant seem to be able to right click on signals so i have no idea what number it is. Also, there's trains on there which I can't seem to see, even though I've had a message from the shunter to say it's there, and it's waiting at a red signal. What am I doing wrong? And is Exeter the ideal "next step up" from Royston? Thanks Aaron Log in to reply |

" said:I still cant seem to be able to right click on signals so i have no idea what number it is.You'll want to uncheck the option "Right Click Cancels Route" in Options/F3. Quote: Also, there's trains on there which I can't seem to see, even though I've had a message from the shunter to say it's there, and it's waiting at a red signal. Some sidings/yards don't have track circuits/train describers, so you need to set the route out, and interpose the correct ID at the next signal (either right click the signal and select "interpose", or use Ctrl-I, type in the TD, then click on the signal). If you can't set a route out immediately, you can put down a sticky note to make sure you don't forget where the train is - right click on any blank area, select "Add Sticky Note", and you can then write in the train ID so you remember what's waiting where. solo wise, exeter can be a bit busy when your first learning. but heres some points about what you said. regarding right clicking on signals: open up the F3 (options) menu and go to the control tab. deselect the tickbox that says right click cancels route. this will allow you to right click on signals and view their number additionally for some sims there are numbered signalling diagrams in the wiki: http://www.SimSig.co.uk/dokuwiki/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=exeter_v2_123_0_0_signalling_diagram.pdf that is exeters to help you with finding signal numbers regarding trains you cant see, these will have entered from various sidings at exeter and taunton where there isnt any train detection available. use the F2 trains menu to see where trains are and what they are doing. you should be able to work it out from there. another option is to wait for the driver to ring in after 2 mins saying hes waiting at red signal XYZ and you can then find him that way. in terms of next steps up from royston, can i suggest oxted which is a nice small panel which is easy to handle, or for a bit more of a challenge, gloucester. waterloo may be slightly mind boggling to you at first but it has ARS (automatic route setting) which will help you out immensly good luck "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply |

I don't mean to add to your question, but if you disable 'right click cancels route', the how would you cancel a route? Also, in terms of signal numbers, I personally never look at them, instead I look at the train list if I cannot find a train. Fraser Log in to reply |

" said:how would you cancel a route?Right click on the signal and select Cancel route. Apart from making it quicker/easier to cancel a set route, enabling Right-click cancels route probably(?) also makes it a tad more realistic. " said: I don't mean to add to your questionI wouldn't worry about doing this - one of the purposes of the forum is for asking questions, getting help, etc. In-fact it may prove beneficial asking questions like this; if people use the search... then they may well find your question and my answer to it and so it'd help them almost immediately without needing to ask a question on the forum and wait, potentially for a few hours, for an answer.
