" said:If FP5 is Low Gates @ NorthallertonCorrect! FP5 is Low Gates - the branching line runs into Northallerton station, and straight on takes you down the avoiding line. The bridge in the distance takes the avoiding line under the ECML. On the original photo you can make out the electrification masts on the main line, but they're not really visible at this resolution unless you know what you're looking for. The biggest clue is probably the dairy at top left. And I'll give you a Correct! for FP1 too. Ainderby Steeple on the Wensleydale Railway, looking towards Moreton-on-Swale. Log in to reply |

My turn. Both these are of the same signal. Yes, it is standing right next to that footpath. Yes, it is number 1. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply |

Sam: my second guess is: somewhere on the Glasgow Low Level? Queen St, for example. Clive: that is intriguing! The aspect makes me think it's from one of those countries which used signal aspects derived from the DDR system, but it doesn't look at all like a German signal. Unfortunately "somewhere else in Eastern Europe" is the best I can do. Log in to reply |

Clive: The architecture looks north-central european, but that's as far as I can guess. One question: Why is the lady with the backpack passing an unlit signal?

I am going to drop two more hints on my teaser from earlier: 1. The location is somewhere west of London 2. The recording of the bell - Post 193, http://www.btinternet.com/~dcharries/CIMG7326.WAV - was made at the same location as where the box - http://www.flickr.com/photos/14103794@N04/6287029320/in/photostream was photographed. Don't worry: I won't keep you in suspense for too much longer. Dave Last edited: 30/10/2011 at 21:37 by DaveHarries Log in to reply |

The signal is definitely lit, as can be seen in the other photo. It's showing double red. Okay, some clues. There's a station ahead of the camera and a station behind it; they're about 1km apart. I don't believe the station ahead has a signal 2B, but perhaps it should. The station behind the camera used to serve train ferries. It no longer does, but you can still catch a train from there that will take you to the station at the other end of the former ferry route. Log in to reply |

Well done Forest! This is the L-tog line from Helsingor along the north side of Zealand. The track is behind the hedge to the right of the footpath; it's making a sharp curve at this point, so the signal has to be well offset. The main services from Denmark to Sweden used to take the train ferry from here to Helsingborg. Since the Oresund bridge opened, they've been replaced by the Oresundtag service between the same two towns, but via Copenhagen and Malmo (taking about 90 minutes instead of the ferry's 20). Thank you! I tried to narrow down the spot with the aid of Google - but did not get very far. Here are some from me in return, with a theme to them: for a change, some narrow gauge. All roughly the same gauge, in fact, although apart from that they are an extremely varied trio of lines. FP6: FP7: FP8: Post has attachments. Log in to view them.
