Having kept you all at bay since Thursday 27th October on this one:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/14103794@N04/6287029320/in/photostream

and since Tuesday 25th October on this one:
http://www.btinternet.com/~dcharries/CIMG7326.WAV

I will now give the answer. Despite having given clues (including saying that the locations were the same) no-one got it. Therefore I will confirm that the location for the audio recording and for the picture was at Wokingham, Berkshire.

The interesting thing with this box is that, despite the dominance of electrics for much of the signalling throughout the locality, the box still retains a mechanical element as there are point rods and signal wires running from the box up to the junction just Southeast of the station. These are connected to the points at the junction along with a couple of spinning discs (white background, red bar) on the junction. The signalman advised me that the box has a 40 lever frame of which 15 levers are in use.

Question though, out of interest: how come the mechanical equipment has survived the resignalling? Either way I note that the station is to be redeveloped in 2012/2013 (see the Wikipedia entry for the station) but the schedule from NR seems to indicate that Wokingham will not be resignalled before 2024.

HTIOI,
Dave
AndyG did actually guess it correctly in this post however he failed to clearly identify which one he was guessing at. I cannot stress how much need there is both for photos/sound clips (or any Guess The Location item) to be clearly marked for easy 'identification' and how much need there is for guesses to clearly state which one you're guessing at.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

UKTM,

Yes, that was Andy's undoing. I did see the post and ask for clarification but it wasn't given. Well done, Andy.

PGB05
- Well done Geoff, it is London Road depot on the Bakerloo line. I hoped this one would take longer as I was struggling to take a photo over the high wall.
Still three to be guessed.

Is 02 the line to/from the stone terminal at Hamworthy?
Is 03 the tunnels between Junction Rd Junc on the NLL and Carlton Rd Jn (I think) on the MML?

Well done Tristan.

Unfortunately officer dibble was wrong with both PGB02 and PGB03 so these are still open for offers.

Peter.

PBG03 looks like the Tuebrook area of Liverpool with the disused tunnels on the right once going down to Liverpool Central, or Exchange I can't remember which

No-one seems to have got my last four, so here's some clues.

6 and 8 are very close to each other, though none of the signals are visible in both.

7 and 1 might be seen by the driver of the same train on his journey.

A: notice which quadrant the signals act in, which will tell you which part of the country it is in.

TomOF,
Correct, PGB02 is Frome, it was disconcerting being on the station hearing trains and not seeing them.
PGB03 isn't Tuebrook.

Keep trying,
Peter.

PGB03: Edge Hill, Liverpool? The disused tunnels are the original L&MR lines to Crown Street station and the docks.

Correct! And that was meant to be the cunning trick one, too, because it's not a terminus nowadays.

Still a terminus on Google Maps! The conductor rail is the give-away too.

Bah! I know the conductor rail is a Big Clue, but thought that people might forget KGV was a temporary terminus for a few years.

There are no Evil Trick Aspects to the other two, I promise.
