These North London Line (NLL) boxes closed in February and control of the NLL move to Upminster IECC. The original plan was to have a separate job at Upminster for only the NLL on top of the existing LTS (Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness) job. However, this hasn't hasppened, and the exisiting Upminster IECC job has had the NLL added to it with additional staff as well to cover the increased control area.

New Cross Gate signal box was only ever designed for the East London Line, controlling from Highbury & Islington to New Cross, New Cross Gate & the new fringe towards Queens Road Peckham when the Clapham Junction extension opens. (NB: The line from Queens Road Peckham to Clapham Junction will be controlled from the same signal boxes as now - London Bridge, Victoria (Eastern) and Wimbledon)

The following boxes closed in February 2011:

Willesden High Level, Gospel Oak, Camden Road, Dalston, Stratford (NLL).

The following boxes remain open, for now: (on the NLL, Gospel Oak to Barking & "Freight Boxes")

Acton Wells Jn, Bollo Lane, Kew East, Richmond, Acton Canal Wharf, Neasden, Dudding Hill, Upper Holloway, South Tottenham.

The next project currently on the table is the closure of Kew East and Bollo Lane and a resignalling to create a larger Acton Wells Jn signal box, probably double manned.

And, if I am not mistaken, Greenford East? Or is that a different line?

You'll get into trouble for saying that sort of thing - it's on proper Western rails, none of this NLL business! (Although the line towards Paddington/Kensington Olympia passes about 100m from Acton Wells Jn)

Ooops. Sorry, LOL.

On a related matter, where is Acton Canal Wharf? I am not from London and don't know Acton very well, therefore.

There were a lot worse places than Canal Wharf, I can assure you.

Mr Barber,
I am curious to know where in the London area can be worse than Acton Can Wharft apart from the old Neasden

Which old Neasden - South or Midland?

Meanwhile... OK you may be right for the current situation. But if you look at my sign-off it might give you a clue... North Pole Junction was probably the most aptly-named box on the entire system. Not funny on a cold winter night (and they were a lot colder in the late 1970s) with a vicious westerly gale blowing.
