Hi I seem to have the problem on most sims that when i connect as a client i get disconnected when the game is paused. And before you ask I have checked router and computer and it happens with different computers and different routers (admittedly all computers are running XP). I was just wondering if anyone else had suffered from this problem? Log in to reply |

" said:HiZZZZ, I have not had any problems with the network when a game is paused. Are you using XP(SP3)? You mentioned that you are having the same problem on other computers. Are you using the same ISP? Cheers Bazz Barry, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Last edited: 13/12/2011 at 04:21 by BarryM Reason: added another question Log in to reply |

You mean the host pauses or you try to pause? You should not be able to pause, but it isn't deniable that there may be some sorts of bugs... I didn't encounter host pausing when I am the client, but I did tried to play with myself at 127.0.0.1 and don't have any problems. Perhaps the ISPs cut off your connection after being connected for a while, but it shouldn't be so "accurate" when you pause, and not all ISPs will do this... Log in to reply |

This happens to me a lot and is one of the reasons I rarely bother with multiplayer games any more. Typically I'll be waiting patiently for a panel then there's a panel swap at a planned break. I am given a panel and we take the break but during the break I disconnect without me knowing. As it's a break there's no activity in the F10 chat box (as everyone's off boiling the kettle, walking the dogs, ordering pizzas, etc) so it goes very quiet. (It's worse now that many are using Teamspeak to communicate during games.) I wait and wait and wait and about 5-10 mins later....ping....I get the message that I've been disconnected. When I reconnect, of course, someone else has the panel I've just waited patiently for an hour to get. Very frustrating! I have a very stable cable broadband connection and I am using Vista. Does your machine go to sleep at any point? It it does that may account for the lost connection.

Yes, check if your computer sleeps (I think most Windows machines default that) And usually when it sleeps, the Network Interface Card's power gets cut off so you lost your connection, especially when using Wi-Fi. Right click on the Desktop and click Properties, then "Screensavers", then "Power Management" and play with those a while. Log in to reply |

I wonder whether it's an idle TCP connection that quietly gets dropped by the ISP, network card, or Windows. When the sim is paused, obviously there's not much traffic going over the link. Maybe it needs a quiet time ping/keep-alive - in both directions.

" said:i was thinking that GeoffAre you on teamspeak at the same time when this is happening? Or are you using anything else like Skype? I'm not sure if Teamspeak or Skype can have any adverse effect, the host will only be connecting to the teamspeak server in the same way that we connect to a SimSig server. it happens whether I'm on team-speak or Skype or not I've even ran the computer in safe mode to make sure no other programs are effecting it i think it like Geoff said and an idle TCP connection getting dropped

Can you tell how long have you been paused and no chat messages until you are disconnected? If it is always the same for a particular ISP then I agree with Geoff. Try constantly sending a chat message to others Log in to reply |

With regard to Teamspeak, I wasn't suggesting this was a factor in causing the disconnection rather it was a factor in me actually detecting that I'd been disconnected as the F10 chat box is usually very quiet when Teamspeak is in use.
