Some manuals appear on author's websites rather than on the SimSig wiki. This means that users cannot edit them for improvement or whatnot (if needed). Personally, I think it would be better if all sim manuals were on the wiki rather than elsewhere; what do others think?

Well, I do it because I don't want people putting mistakes into the manual (given the misunderstandings people have had with Euston, that seems rather likely) and I don't have time to continually read the page to see what people have changed.

Mixed thoughts on this, but I'm more on the side of the developers (mainly Clive, in this case) as I can understand his/their reasoning behind it. As long as suitable wording is available on the Wiki so that the page is findable via a search and a link to the manual is provided then I see no problem.

Could the wiki editing permissions not be changed to prevent so called unauthorised edits? Would have to get a site admin to look at this one.

I think each page can have its own set of access control permissions. On that point Geoff, a user called wikihelp007 registered and put some German spam on the Edinburgh manual. I've deleted that, but it might be a good idea to ban/delete that user. Log in to reply |
