just out of interest, why do so many trains that stop at newton abbot heading in the down direction booked to call at platform 3? It would seem that 2 would be better or if going towards torquay platform 1? i did have a look in the forum and i didn't see anything about this but apologies if it has already been answered! Which Timetable are you using?

" said:just out of interest, why do so many trains that stop at newton abbot heading in the down direction booked to call at platform 3?Early morning trains use platfrom 3 in the down direction as that's the side of the station where the exit is. Out of interest which Timetable is it you are playing? "Passengers for New Lane, should be seated in the rear coach of the train " - Opinions are my own and not those of my employer Log in to reply |

If you put all the trains through one platform at night then you need less staff as well as things like less lights etc etc etc. It is purely a cost cutting exercise.

Also keeps the driver's route knowledge up to scratch for possible diversion routes, and platform staff's knowledge for dispatching trains in that direction.

Unless things have recently changed at Newton Abbot, early in the morning and late at night there is only one dispatcher and their office is on platform 3.

So if things aren't running to plan and there is a conflict the signaller should presumably hold trains outside the station until P3 is free rather than use 1 or 2?
