Timetable update - Biggleswade closure 07/02/2012 at 14:29 #29007

There's an excellent semi-fictional timetable (I'm afraid I can't remember who made it) for a Sunday in January 2005 when all lines were closed through Biggleswade. The Great Northern service is simulated accurately (with Peterborough trains diverted to Letchworth for bus connections) and the East Coast service is the fictional part. East Coast electrics have a diesel loco attached/detatched at Welwyn Garden City to drag them via Cambridge and Ely.

It was written for a previous version of KX, and needs a couple of fixes to work properly on the current version. I was going to do it myself but have got a bit stuck.

Down trains meet their loco at signal 617/619. The timetable lists the location as DIGSWELL JUNCTION, because that's what it was in the previous version. The loco now stops actually on the junction, blocking through traffic and causing problems with the join instruction, so I've been working through to change them to WGC DOWN NORTH (REVERSE) which does work.

Up trains stop at WGC P1 so that the loco can detatch, run through the through siding and reverse in the reversing siding*, and take the flyover back to 617/619 for their next train. Specifically, the instruction for 1A02D (the D indicating a diesel drag) is DR:1A02 N:0A02, where 0A02 is the loco and 1A02 is the rest of the train carrying on to London under its own AC power. Unfortunately, on the current version of KX, 1A02 then sits in the platform and refuses to budge because it thinks it hasn't got a loco. What does the instruction need to be to make sure both parts of 1A02D remain powered after dividing? How does the sim know that this division is a loco being dropped and not (for example) two MUs uncoupling?

*these sidings are appropriately named, aren't they? ;)

double check that DEF or DER isnt being used as this specifically removes tractio power, DR and DF should split the power equally

It's not. This timetable was written before DEF/DER were available.

Reason: Typo: 'DEF' > 'DER'

A divide (front or rear) should leave both parts with power, whereas a detach (DER: DEFwill leave half the train without power. The detach (and drop coaches for that matter) is a new feature since that TT, but the plain divides should be backwards compatible and thus work OK.

What I think might be the problem could be the initial power types for the divided stock (the initial power type being newer than that TT). It will be that as the train enters the sim as diesel, but in effect changes power. Try ticking both AC and diesel initial power boxes and have a play.

It would be good to get it working under the new version, it's a change to the usual KX fare.

Let us know how you get on, or need other ideas to try.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

That's it! When 1A02D enters as diesel and AC, both parts move away happily after the divide. Thanks :)

I'll work my way through the rest of the timetable and post updates here.

Actually - I might as well let others join in. I'll be hosting it as a multiplayer game this evening.

It was indeed, I've been back and had a look in the download section and it's got your name by it. Thank you - I'll host a full play-through and if it works I'll upload it.

If you can add the necessary credits to yourself and me in the description field of the timetable that should be OK.

Sort of on topic but is, in march the ecml will be shut from hitchin because of work on the flyover. So the drags through cambridge and ely will happen once again.

Took a bit longer than planned but I've finally finished and as far as I can tell it now all works. On its way to the downloads section.

I've done my own version of the Fictional Hard timetable, I've done the following changes....;)

I've removed the Letchworth stop from the Cambridge Cruisers opting to keep just the Stevenage stop instead.

I've extended the Hertford terminators though to Stevenage enabling a half hourly service via Hertford North.

I've stabled a 8 car 317/6 at Kings Cross and a 4 car 317/6 at Hertford North to use as my standby trains.

So in essence, there is....

GNER
Half Hourly Class 1 Fast via Welwyn Garden City

WAGN
Hourly Class 1 Fast via Welwyn Garden City (Kings Lynns)
Hourly Class 1 Fast via Welwyn Garden City (Cambridge Cruisers)
Hourly Class 1 Semi Fast via Welwyn Garden City (Cambridge)
Half Hourly Class 2 Semi Fast via Welwyn Garden City (Letchworth/Cambridge)
Half Hourly Class 2 Stopper (Welwyn Garden City)
Half Hourly Class 2 Stopper (Stevenage via Hertford North)

Quite surprising but the Hertford terminators don't clash with anything hence why I've extended them.
