I'm puzzled why the Trip Editor uses checkboxes for Passing Time, Set down only and Thru line stop instead of radio buttons here.![]() Whether one checks one, two or three boxes, the format chosen is that of the lowest box checked. While this works OK, it could be a little confusing. Radio buttons seem more appropriate for this purpose. Hope you don't mind my pointing this out. What if you just want a normal departure time? You'd have to add another button. As it is, I think it's obvious that only one should be ticked.

Set down and thru line stops can be used together - the first to allow a train to depart early, the second at a non-platform.

Quote:Set down and thru line stops can be used together If so, how would one know that a thru line stop is also a set stop, since the only dividing character displayed is t, not dt? (e.g., 12t34, not 12dt34) Steamer: Quote: What if you just want a normal departure time? You'd have to add another button. As it is, I think it's obvious that only one should be ticked. This is usually solved in one of two ways. (1) Have one checkbox marked Normal or something equivalent, plus 3 radio buttons for Passing, etc. If the user checks Normal, the radio buttons are displayed disabled. If Normal is unchecked, they are enabled. (2) Have 4 radio buttons as you suggest, Normal plus the other 3. I think I prefer this way as all 4 buttons carry equal significance. The important issue is that they should all be mutually exclusive, not additive. At least that's my understanding. Geoff has said d and t may be added, but I don't understand yet how a user would know this without seeing an extra character in the timing code. (added) On reflection, there's an even more elegant third way. If it is logical to combine say d and t checkboxes but no others, add a little extra code to the 3 checkboxes so that:
In other words, the checkboxes behave somewhat like radio buttons too. This behaviour would require a little explanation in the Wiki but would not leave the user guessing what the significance of 3 checked boxes implies. This only requires 3 checkboxes so does not disturb the original layout, only its behaviour. Last edited: 20/02/2012 at 10:23 by maxand Log in to reply |

" said:Geoff has said d and t may be added, but I don't understand yet how a user would know this without seeing an extra character in the timing code.I suppose the fact that a stop is set-down only is useful to know but not critical, because the train will depart when ready without further intervention; but which line it stops on is a decision which has to be made by the signaller before the train arrives. So given the option only to see one, I think through-line stop is a more important one to show. Log in to reply |
