Thunderbird email 18/06/2012 at 23:17 #33161

I've got two main email accounts that I use in Thunderbird - let's say one is personal and one is business. When I compose an email I have to remember to select which account to send it from, and often forget. Anybody know of a way for Thunderbird to prompt me to change the sending account if I type a particular recipient's address?

For example, if I type "attachment" in an email, Thunderbird pops up to check whether I meant to attach something. So if I type "...@aWorkAddress.com" in the to/cc/bcc field then I want it to say "Do you mean to send from your Work account?". That kind of thing.

Any ideas?

Could you configure this add-on to achieve your goal?

Unfortunately not, I set up rules but it didn't appear to do anything! Changed the location manually and it still didn't change anything. Thanks anyway.

It ought to work but I can't get it to work. There are related add-ins which also don't appear to work. This leads me to suspect it's Thunderbird, not the add-ins - possibly an incompatibility with V13.0.1 of TB.

Geoff,

Identity Chooser add-on might help.

I personally use Outlook (not the Express but the one in Office) so I don't have much experience with Thunderbird.

Hope it helps....

That was one of the ones I tried, along with Flexible Identity and Correct Identity. I'm suspecting Thunderbird is the problem, not the add-ons, as it's a common denominator!

I had a quick look at Identity Chooser yesterday and every time I clicked on any of the message icons except reply or reply to all I got a drop down listing the various outgoing accounts and asking me to select. I got similar when I used the relevant menu options. That was running TB 13.0.1.

Perhaps your TB needs a re-install?

Come to think of it, yes, that one did prompt for an account every time I composed or forwarded a message. It's not quite what I wanted but it's better than nothing I guess!

Geoff,
Better still, use a different emailer. Then you will not have the problem.
