I just wanted to say a very large thanks to those responsible for Simsig, but particularly the people who wrote Liverpool Lime street. For a total beginner like me, whose only connection with Rail is as a passenger, it is the perfect scenario for learning (after Royston, of course, without whose beginner's guide I'd be pretty much stuck: big thanks to Royston too!). It's lovely to have a SimSig that fits on one screen, is busy enough to be interesting even in simple mode with nothing set up to go wrong, and perfect for getting used to the general procedures of signalling as simulated in SimSig. I'm looking forward to trying it with platform closures and delays, and also looking forward to trying a simple simulation with a longer bit of track to look after. Thanks all! Gloucester is a good intermediate Sim I think. For people looking to move on from Royston and the smaller Sims, Gloucester is probably about right for the next step I'd say

I think I'm kind of addicted to Brighton after those starting sims. Though it's only beta, it has only two panels that one person can handle them quite fine (given that there are no big incidents).

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I did download Lancing, but I think I must have done something wrong because it appeared without a timetable. I've currently restarted Lime Street but got courageous enough to try "One of those days" mode, with platform 1 shut. It's fun! I'll have a look at Gloucester and Brighton. My own personal geographical area is Norwich, but I can see that it's far too close to Geoff's conflict-of-interest areas - and there's no reason one should play close to home. Log in to reply |

There is a topic on here from recently of how to get the timetable up in Lancing. I would suggest browsing the Lancing area of the forum.
