47624 at the buffer stops on platform 2 at St. Pancras during February 1988. Are you happy now Joe, you can even see the famous clock. Fair enough Stephem 2 of you with the same names & share the same interest such as trains quite uncommon I'd say as you don't come across that everyday. Log in to reply |

37244+37194 on Saltley LIP. 37244 has a fond memory for me. Early one morning in 1996 the over night sleeper from Inverness - London Euston failed at Rugby. I dispatched this loco with Rugby driver Les Perry who subsequently went onto the front of the failed Cl.90 & dragged the whole ensemble all the way to Euston slow line. 37244 made a fine racket according to Les with a dead Cl.90+load 16 on. It was one of only 2 occasions that a Cl.37 worked into Euston with the overnight sleepers from Scotland. On the other occasion it was 37219. Quite a rarity if any Cl.37 bashers happened to be onhe train when it failed as it wasn't on a platformed line & it was non stop to Euston. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. " said:I remember once being short of power at Immingham & I sent this loco to Baglan Bay in South Wales, much to mthe annoyance of Immingham Depot. The phone was buzzing that morning with Mr. Spreckley complaining that this loco had been sent to the opposite end of the country. In response I told him he could carry the can next time we were short of power at Immingham to cover the turns of duty which resulted in a train being cancelled. He couldn't say anything after that. Usually we tried to keep it on the local MGR workings between Immingham & Scunthorpe. Reminds me of something that happened at Ripple Lane when the 56s were still quite new (but I can't for the life of me remember what other depots were involved). There was a working that brought a 56 into RL each morning and out in the evening; the foreign crew were in the habit of screwing it down where they left it rather than putting it away somewhere quiet, which meant starting an engine to shunt the dratted thing whenever access was needed past it (RL men didn't sign 56s). No entreaty made any difference; day after day the thing blocked half the depot. One day something arrived at Stratford as a failure, due to work out again. Stratford had little power to spare (and what they had they were keeping quiet about, as usual), so Control asked around. RL innocently enquired whether the blokes at Straford signed 56s... That evening the foreign men turned up at RL and, instead of their gleaming, comfortable 56 were told they'd have to take (probably the roughest, oldest, dirtiest) 47 RL had. "Their" engine, they were sweetly told, was probably somewhere in South Wales by now. Funny thing, they always put it somewhere well out of the way after that... Yes, some good stuff here! If you're going to put up some of Pancras, do you by any chance have any of the line down to Bedford pre-resignalling? I don't have that many loco pics but I'll try & sort out some signalbox pics at some point. (Just off the top, what's the maximum size for pictures? I may have to do a bit of jiggery-pokery as some of mine are a bit big.) Log in to reply |
