According to an article in the Oxford Mail the direct services ran for about 5 years up to 2003 and there is now a call to reinstate them. If I remember correctly they went into Didcot and reversed rather than using the chord.

1 per day each way was direct, to maintain driver route knowledge over the chord. Might be a decent use for the 180s, given their ability to keep up with HSTs...

If I remember correctly they went into Didcot and reversed rather than using the chord. And in doing so, exposed a bug in the ARS data that had been in Swindon B IECC for years. Nothing major, just a routing issue that required signaller intervention to avoid an inconvenience. The knock-on effect of cancelling that service was that Corsham station reopening suddenly looked somewhat less likely. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |
