Yes I was in the Signalling Record Society Group that visited yesterday. It was very interesting as I had never been in a London Transport Signalling Control Centre before and all of your colleagues were very accommodating. I did visit the Met Control Room as well as both SCCs but didn't see the District Control Room as they were busy dealing with a points failure at Gunnersby (another Sim Sig link!).

At least the District were running trains (albeit maybe delayed). I understand from my colleagues that they probably enjoyed your visit more than you, as it broke up a very very slow day! Glad you found it interesting.

While there wasn't too much going in the Met SCC and Control Room it did have the advantage that we could ask questions etc without getting in the way. All of the group had a great time if any of your colleagues ask.

I'll certainly pass that on to my colleagues. Quiet days do have the advantage of allowing us to show people aroud properly and answer their questions. But on the other hand, it can sometimes leave people thinking "What an easy job they have!!" Log in to reply |

I dont suspose Baker Street line controllers office has changed much since my 6 month attachement back in the mid 90s least it still works lol.

I am also wondering how a visit there was organised as I would love to spend sometime quality time up there again so I can just let the memories just flood back as its a really good complex office especially the met bit through the city especially during the rush hours.

Since the mid-90s then yes it has changed. The Jubilee has gone of course. There are a few new screens here and there. Some new equipment has been bolted on here and there, and some old equipment has been removed. The basic room though hasn't really changed that much. As for visits, he will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the group Andrew G visited with has a regular contact with LU and their visits are fairly regular - normally once a year. Visits from those outside the company are obviously difficult to arrange - but not impossible. Are you still with Chiltern / National Rail? If you are then the best course (especially if it's Chiltern) would be to approach your boss and go through him to arrange a visit. Log in to reply |

Hi Metcontrol, You have now got me thinking as you mentioned Chiltern railways so I am wondering if I know you, also thanks for my posting I have a operational question for you last night sig failure at Baker St mets suspened through city as this is normal practice as they can rev in plt 3 but why do the h+c and circle run and I do realise it all depends what signal fails this does seem to be happening a lot within the city area lately I am on the met a lot now as I am a event steward at Wembley Stadium also have they got new sheds at Wembley and I would like to ask you something so can you send me your personel e-mail as I dont know how to send you a private message since this website has changed. Sorry jimgos I should've pointed out who I was. It's actually citysig from the old forum. Took the opportunity to update my name when the forum moved. To PM you click the little downward arrow under someone's avatar. What happens after that I'm not sure as I haven't done it yet. If it works I'll either respond to your query in a PM or I'll give you the email address in a PM. Call me suspicious, but I rarely publicise my email even written using long-hand (dot instead of .) Last night's failure luckily happened just after I left. The Mets are normally first to go with such a failure, as the late-running incurred by them going through the failure will affect northbound services, in particular to Uxbridge. The H&C and Circle were reduced, and those turned back formed "gap-covering" services to Hammersmith. The remainder went through the failure in order to provide some degree of service. On their return, due to the late-running incurred they were turned short - with the remainder of their trips covered by the aforementioned "gap fillers." It's all about the "big picture" on the lines as a whole, rather than about individual services. Wembley Sheds are no more. The sidings were relaid after the old shed was knocked down. One other thing I think its mainly N/B Uxbridge services through the city in the evening anyways as I am working at Wembley Stadium as a safety steward I do have an issue with how mets run after an event. you tend to spearate the Aldgates from Baker Streets as far as platforms are concerned I got stuck last time on a Baker Street for 15 mins the train was other people were complaining as 3 aldgate from platform 6 were signalled through I believe this was due to late running caused by overcrowding because of the Wembley event I was just wondering if you can let me know in private or here or by e-mail the offical line on this. many thanks Log in to reply |
