According to the list of rail accidents on Wikipedia, we should see 2 more of these reminders this year when we remember the 55 people who lost their lives in accidents on 28/12/1906 and 30/12/1941.

But today is the 27th......

I think I'm correct in saying that the Tay Bridge disaster remains the only railway accident in the UK where all the crew *and passengers* on the train were killed.

But today is the 27th...?

To make this post signalling related, one of the signallers at Dundee comes from a long line of railwaymen; his great (great?) grandfather was the fireman on the train that went down with the bridge. Also, they say that on the night of the 28th you can see the track circuits on the diagram in Tay Bridge South light up in sequence as if a Down train is crossing the bridge when there's nothing there. A couple of signallers have also supposedly seen lights out in the darkness on the middle of the river. All I can say to that is I've worked the box plenty of times on the anniversary and I've never seen anything strange.
