I just thought I'd take a moment to heap praise on the Carlisle sim and thank everyone involved with its development and testing. I have a bit of an on-off relationship with Simsig (I started playing with the first iteration of Didcot many years ago) and downloaded Carlisle just before Christmas to see what it was like. I'm very impressed - a reasonable size to be comfortably handled by a single player but certainly busy enough to keep you on your toes. There are some interesting wee idiosyncrasies too, which are presumably replicated from the real thing. I was not a fan of scrolly sims when they first appeared and gave up after a while but I've really got to grips with the format now through playing Carlisle. I'm slowly working my way through the 2009 timetable with incidents firmly off and I'm enjoying it enormously. So thanks for a great simulation!

Wait till you start Pascal's 1979-1980 TT. That does help you learn that every action has consequences! I've done too many hours of testing of the sim, but it is still one of my favourites and I come back to it time after time. I think Tom (TomOF), Noel (noisynoel) and Pascal (58050) deserve a huge amount of credit for what they have achieved, “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply The following users said thank you: Signalhunter, guidomcc, Hooverman, GoochyB |

I also would like to offer my thanks for the Carlisle simulation another excellent production. I am working my way through the 2000s timetable and I am finding it challenging enough for one operator. I appreciate all the work that goes into one of these simulations amd the amount of satisfaction that they have given me over the last 10 years or so is tremendous. Many thanks to all those people who have contributed to the production of the increasing number of "SimSigs". Hopefully one day Preston, my local "box" will appear and I will be as they say "over the moon". Log in to reply |

Glad you like the timetable ozzyd9001 & yes it is very challenging. But also the testers who were involved with this timetable along the way also deserve credit for there part, especially John(Postal) in his very diligent testing & editing & sorting out the rules for the 'days of the week' running. All I can say is that there's more to come from where that one came from, so watch this space. Don't ask me for which sims as I can't comment on that, but I'm currently working on one as we speak & there's also another one half way through. ALl good stuff especially for those who prefer the hertiage eras. When alls said & done Ozzy, glad to hear you haven't given up on it & still plodding your way through it. :woohoo:

hi pascal yes i very much know its just down to one person. but to all the testers involved right from the word go. i have tested one for you in the past ie a Sheffield tt. so i know how difficult it can be. but to this tt im at 15.23 so far and i must admit i have had to delete a few parcels moves as ive put them in the wrong siding or platform but that will come next time i play. again a big thank you to you and all your testers. your paul ps i prefer the heratige tts for all the shunting and light engines you get Log in to reply |

Paul, you like the heritage timetables like me there's more to do than modern day timetables. However the one thing I will say about Carlisle 79-80 timetable is that it isn't very forgiving if you send the train into the wrong platform. I've only managed to play the Carlisle 79-80 timetable from mifnight to midnight on only 3 occasions, but with all the testing involved you get to know the trains off by heart after a bit. Monday is probably the easiest timetable out of the 5, but even that starts to get busy after 0500am. As for the rest of the week I think once I had over 48 trains on the panel at one time, what with answering the phone etc that was manic, but I hope that doesn't frighten people away from playing it. So long as people enjoy it thats the main thing for me as well as bringing the best out of the Carlisle sim, without which of course the timetable couldn't have been produced.

I'm still on my first run through but sticking with it. I've only had to delete one train, so far. That was due to a Mexican Stand-off between a Tamper and something else. I had mis-routed (and he took it  ) the tamper but "wiggled" it back towards Upperby. Unfortunately, there was something wanting to head the other way, on the single line! Tis hard(ish) work for one person. Especially when Kingmoor doesn't answer the phone as quickly as I might wish. Having said that, I have a "score" of 70% at 09:30ish. I'll be happy with that, for now, and try harder on the next run through. Log in to reply |

Well if you stick at it at least you will learn by your mistakes. 70% isn't a bad score when alls said & done, in fact the best score I've ever got out of the 3 times I've run through it end to end is 78% & that was due to the fact that I knew from the months of testing what to expect & when, so I was ready for it & then I was running it at about x1.3 on the speed setting. Heritage timetables by there very nature with all the shunting & yard trips etc aren't meant to be easy, but anyone who sticks with it to the end deserves a pat on the back. In respect of Kingmoor Yard acceptance slots, what I tend to do is if the train enters on the S&C or comes off the Newcastle Line I ring Kingmoor Tower as soon as it comes on the panel. If the train is coming from carnforth then I ring the Tower as soon as the train comes across Upperby Bridge Junction. I defiantely never leave it until it is on the home straight at Caldew Jn, or else as you say if the Tower doesn't answer you can get a backlog of trains at certain times of the day pretty quickly. The trick with 6L12 from kingmoor Yard in the early hours is to send him out behind 1M13 & 1M11 & then put him into Plumpton for 1M10 & the next south bound class 1, once that has gone by Plumpton send 6L12 out again & subject to how 5K30WFO or 5J41 & 4M49 are doing put him into Shap loop to allow them to pass, then you can route him straight through to Carnforth. If you stick to the platforms booked for the trains you shouldn't go far wrong.

My comment on this TT is the same as for Kurt's KX1985 TT:- If you follow the TT precisely, it works like a charm; but you deviate from it at your peril. For both of them when worked correctly, it's poetry in motion. Edit: Forgot to add, very very satisfying when you get it just right. I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either. Last edited: 29/12/2012 at 23:04 by AndyG Log in to reply The following user said thank you: postal |

ahhh the next run through yes i am looking forward to that. as with kingmore i just ring them and forget about it while i look after something else. its the sdg a.b.cs. that got me this time me not getting them right till later in the tt when it was too late to do anything. but lessons learnt as they say.its the busy hour in the morning when you have 4 trains waiting to get out of upperby plus ones trying to get in all at the same time thats challenging but all in all a very good tt all round thanks again paul Log in to reply |

Well we could all offer you advice on how to do it. I'm sure AndyG & John(Postal) have there own way to do it. Me personally as afr as that bit of the timetable goes I start off with a first come first served approach, but later when they ring to come out I tend to regulate regarding their importance. Obviously any Cl.5s coming out of Upperby Yard have priority as they form Cl.1s north or south so they don't want to be delayed. Then I tend to get rid of the Earles Sdgs Cement train followed by the LF to Kingmoor Depot or Wapping HS. Finally I deal with 9Txx as they are only local trip workings & delays to them are that drastic. That is an exetremely busy part of the timetable for one location along with everything else going on. One tip for you which is what I do. On the scratch pad I enter TDs like CSTP, KDST, CLST, 0T32, 9T32, 0T02, 9T02, 5T09, 9T04, 9T05 etc etc, because you don't have to change the TDs on the scratch pad, they automatically update themseleves as you progress through the timetable. That way you just click on the TD whenever you feel like it & the TD will show you the next working allocated to that decription. As for the various LEs you just update them as you go along.

" said:its the sdg a.b.cs. that got meBy and large sdgs b & c are interchangeable as long as you remember where you have put things in non-track-circuited areas. I differ from Pascal in that I set the scratch pad up so that each row represents one of the "invisible" areas and put TDs in there every time I put something in. There is enough horizontal space to show the TDs of the original plus all of the sections for a train that splits in roughly geographical order. Another thing I do for sdgs 2,1,b and c is to put a collar at each end if there is anything berthed there. I use a traction isolation reminder collar if the train/light engine is due to wait and a general reminder collar if I need to do something as soon as the route is available. Upperby at 06:00 is a nightmare but you can get by somehow as long as you remember not to let the cement empties or the trip working to Petteril Bridge out until you have got the loaded cement in and cleared the route round the corner. It's all personal preference, but you need every bit of help you can on this TT! I reckon it is a hugely enjoyable TT so respect to Pascal. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 30/12/2012 at 00:32 by postal Log in to reply |

The challenges within them are great when worked through and conquered especially when trying to work around failures too. TimTamToe wrote: Quote: Especially when points failure and track circuit failures completely block Upperby Yard and south end of carlisle! You're a brave man playing that timetable with failures  I don't think I'd risk it. It's bad enough trying to keep everything moving at the right place at the right time. Having said that my biggest failure when playing it is I sometime forget to regulate some of the slower trains between Upperby Bridge Jn & Carnforth & the other thing that has caught me out a few times are the trains that are booked to stop at P3 in Penrith. If you let them run along you end up with about 3 or 4 trains standing behind the train that has stopped in P2 instead of P3. The first I know about that mistake is when the driver on 1S19 rings to say he is at a red. Having been caught out with that on a number of occasions I now know which trains to look for that call in P3 at Penrith for several minutes. To be frank although it is and challenging timetable I'm only about 95% happy with it. I'm still convinced there's 5% of trains still missing from the timetable & unless we get the proper info for them what you've got now is about as good as it is going to get. To forestall the next question some people may have, go to the F3 pop-up and un-check the Use Public Documents box.

I'm playing the TT 3:1, which gets hectic but i'm chuntering along at ~73% at the moment so all is well and good. The various 9T32s out to the up sidings are what get me, whenever there's a gap that they could use i'm always off doing something else and miss it. Perils of 3:1 I guess.

" said:Am currently on 23:58 on the Monday TT. Will it go to Tuesday's TT when midnight rolls around? No, the TT will finish when the Monday trains have cleared out. While we are on, two days ago you reported a problem here about one of the Carlisle Station Pilot moves which TomOF and I both tried to help you solve. Can you give any update about whether you were able to solve the problem? It does cause concern to developers and testers when problems are reported and quite a bit of time can be spent in chasing up something which at the end of the day is not a sim or TT problem. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |
