Hi, I've been playing the Glouchester sim recently, and been enjoying it. (Big thanks to Moonraker and Roscalen for the 2005 timetable!)

There is just one thing I have been wondering, some of the loop lengths around Glouchester seem to be missing. In particular:
- Barnwood UGL & DGL
- Main through (between 35-154 and 35-158)
- Relief line
- Spurs 1 & 2

In particular, I currently have 5M67 waiting on the Relief line, and 6E45 is arriving from Lydney heading for Longbridge, and is also timetabled to use the relief line. 6E47 is right behind 6E45, half an hour early, and is also timetabled for the relief line. Meanwhile 2V52 is also arriving from north on platform 2, platform 1 is occupied by 1B93 so 2V52 has to pass through up main, occupying that.
The result is that I'm sending 6E45 through platform 4 onto the Barnwood UGL, but I'm not sure where to put 6E47, whether it will fit behind 5M67 on the relief line or not, or whether I should leave it in platform 4 for a while. (Sending more trains across the LC would be pushing the time it stays open and possibly get me a penalty.)

The Gloucester manual has all the lengths (with thanks to 'Steamer' for compiling the info).

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see any specific mention of (for instance) the Barnwood loops on that page, nor of the Glouchester main and relief through lines, which is why I was asking in the first place. I can guess at the through lines on Glouchester being approximately the same lengths as the adjacent platforms, but the 170m difference in length between the combined platform 1&2 and platform 4 still makes it hard for me to make a really good guess.

The Barnwood loops are missing from the Wiki: lengths are: DGL: 512m, UGL: 640m. I can't find any length information for the other lines though.

Thank you very much.

I may have an idea of how to experimentally find the lengths of the through lines: Sending dummy trains onto them, building a longer train until it exceeds the track circuits, then artificially shorten the train until it no longer does. If I succeed in finding lengths that way I will post again.

The developers should know how long each track circuit is, surely?

Certainly, and their answer would obviously be authoritative. I just find it fun to make experiments like that.

Either way, my results are that the relief line (between signals 233 and 258) fits 250m, the main through (between signals 35 and 158) fits 440m, the main through next to platform 1 (between signals 35 and 154) fits 190m, and the main through next to platform 2 (waiting at signal 158) fits 180m.
Those lengths are actually significantly shorter than I had thought they would be, but it satisfies my curiosity

I've updated the Wiki page to include the UM, UR and Bromsgrove Loops lengths.
