Hello! I bought the Scottish four pack today, got my e-mails, and downloaded and installed the license manager. When I try to log in in the license manager, I get the message “Unable to log in: Error parsing response (error code -1)”. I’m running under WINE. Thanks!

I assume you've tried more than once. Thanks for the note about WINE - this might be a factor. Basically it means that the server has sent something the license manager doesn't understand. I'll do some research and will probably get back to you by email. Apologies for the issues.

Hi, just some more data to add from my end. I tried changing my password to one that contains no special characters (only alpha/digit), and the problem still happens. I also tried intentionally using the wrong password, and it gives exactly the same message (NOT a message that the password was wrong).

1999 IBM ThinkPad, 256Mb memory, 333MHz chip, Ubuntu 10.04, WINE.

v3.236 License Manager loaded OK and allocated and de-allocated sim to machine. I haven't tried running a sim on the machine so can't confirm whether loading and running the sim worked OK.

The answer is that Wine needs to be built with libxml support. This probably should go in the wiki!

All I have done on my Ubuntu machine is download and implement the user-contributed Linux set-up Linuxstarter.zip from the downloads section which makes a couple of tweaks to the Wine registry. Not being that level of tecchie, I'm not sure exactly what it modifies but does this already do what is required?

Which the author claims "This is everything you need to use SimSig under Linux. It's a wine registry file, basically. Read the enclosed readme for more information. "

I guess, from other comments and past history, libxml support is probably a standard package. However, I've added it to the Wiki as suggested. Glad you got it working and thanks for reporting the solution.

Works fine on Arch, version... just now. It'll be libxml2 that you need.

More interesting question, is there a distribution that doesn't compile libxml2 in? Or is this self-compiled?

I suspect most binary Linux distros like Ubuntu would have built WINE against libxml and everything would be OK. This is only relevant to people who build WINE themselves from upstream or who use a source-based distro. Notably, this has nothing to do with registry settings; it’s about how WINE itself was compiled.
