I'm considering buying a trackerball to make playing SimSig a little more realistic. Does anyone on here use one and do the sims scroll properly using the ball?

i use a trackerball anyway on my desktop and tend to prefer it over a mouse. so equally with SimSig I find it a bit faster and more user freindly.

I always use a trackerball, much better than wasting space with a mouse you need to move around a desk. Mine works perfectly OK with SimSig.

I use one of theseon both my Desktop and my Laptop for all my computing tasks and SimSig it is superb

I'm another advocate of the trackerball. I have the corded version of the one linked by Sam for my desktop and the same as Joe for the laptop. I used to get quite painful RSI symptoms from using standard mice and the trackerballs have totally eliminated this. If and when you get one you will likely find it a bit awkward to use, but persevere and it'll get easier. Another advantage is the trackerball doesn't get as gunked up as the ball under a mouse, and the trackerball itself pops out very easily to allow cleaning when the need arises. Trackball moves the cursor as expected intuitively but does not scroll screen. Wheel moves the screen left/right. Wheel + shift moves screen up/down. Same with both Microsoft and Logitech hardware. Don't know what happens in a trackball without a wheel. Thanks for all the replies. However, if it can't be set up so side to side scrolling can be done with the ball like on the real thing then I don't think I'll bother, especially since I only play SimSig now and again when the mood takes me.

The Logitech products mentioned earlier are trackballs rather than trackerballs, though from the discussion they seem more than adequate for SimSig. See the distinction here. Log in to reply |
