HST's are my favourite, also got a particular soft spot for 37's, 60's, 70's, 323's and just for their crap factor, Pacers.

Temple Meads you are a brave man admitting to some of those items of rolling stock you like. With the exception of Cl.37s, Cl.60s & Cl.70s I'd keep quiet about the rest. Railway rolling stock isn't getting any better when people start to admit they like some of what you've mentioned.

and generally anything run by cross country (words cannot describe my dislike at having to use them at least once per month for two hours!)

I agree wholeheartedly - life would be so much more relaxing if I didn't have to pull off for them every hour ;-) .
There is nothing wrong with Cross Country services. You can't blame them for lack of seats, as the SRA banned Virgin (as it was then) from ordering longer voyagers, and XC are stuck with them now. People slam Voyagers but praise Meridians, and they are virtually the same train, just a different interior layout. I mean XC have removed the shop on Voyagers to make room for additional seats, and do now run 5 HST sets as well, to help ease over crowding.

Phew. Rant over

I have two gripes with XC....
1. if the train is the 8:21 to york, then it would be nice for it to depart at 8:21 not 8:30 or 8:32 (partly an issue with the route not the TOC, but also they frequently have insufficient crew available.

2. im not sure that Barton CSD understand how to empty/service toilets, as they are consistently out of use and stink the whole vestibule out (coincidentally the vestibule i'm stood in because of the overcrowding.)

i have another gripe with some staff skill issues but i dont feel this is an appropriate place to voice those...

I have never has an issue with the toilets on XC trains, and I use them every week, and they are very rarely late, at least for my journey, and if they are late eg the xx:28 to Plymouth, its usually due to following a late running East Coast service.

The main issue with toilets on Voyagers is not availability but the smell that invades the saloons. My major Voyager gripe however, concerns a lack of seating, and if you can get a seat it's cramped anyway..

Ah, excellent, ta - just wondered, as obviously you'll come this way more often than the Birmingham chaps. Do the Cambridge lot sign via Grantham, or is it just Stansted - Cambridge - Peterboro' - Leicester - Birmingham?

I know you go via Melton, but I didn't know if you also signed via Grantham. Some do, but not all!

Yes - they are sometimes diverted that way at short notice. One went round that way last week when there was a failed freight on the Up at Stamford. I thought it was the Cambridge men who signed the diversion, but obviously not!
