For testing something I want to be able to remote desktop to another account on the same PC. Though the standard Windows 7 one allows you to specify a user account to use, it doesn't allow same-PC connections. I did find another piece of software that allows same-PC connections but unfortunately not by account, so you get a nice echo view of the desktop you're already looking at! Any ideas? I don't think you can do it by anything other than RDP, and that's not available in Home Premium. Why do you need to RDP, why not just run the app as that user?

I need to have the other account open and visible in a window on my desktop. Obviously Windows is running both accounts simultaneously, to a lesser or greater extent, just need to be able to get at it. The only other machine I have is a netbook running XP and I don't think the remote desktops are compatible, at least AFAICR. I do have an Android phone but it's way too small to do anything worthwhile on it. SimSig Boss Last edited: 04/05/2013 at 22:23 by GeoffM Log in to reply |

I believe Windows Server Editions allows concurrent RDP connections to different accounts, but not Windows Desktop editions. However, there are some 3rd party patches that will allow that happen. I think they work by patch some DLLs related to RDP to contain code from Windows Server 2008. I had tried one (I believe it is the second patch from the second link below) and had succeeded in connecting concurrently. I don't know if you will want to bear the risk of being infected by malicious codes, but I am just informing you that this is possible with 3rd party patch. I've tried the RDP client on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 RC. Keyword suggestion: wuindows 7 rdp concurrent Or you can install Windows Server 2008... but I believe this is out of your consideration.
