Hi all,

Wondering if anyone out there can suggest a way of knocking off an issue I have with my Marylebone licence.

I purchased, and had been issued, the licence for the Marylebone sim. Despite this the sim stil keeps me in Demo version for a few minutes.

Following the advice from Geoff I have tried reinstalling the sim as well as deallocating - then reallocating - the licence on my PC. In addition the first licence expired and I was issued another one but the same issue is still happening where I get told I don't have the right licence and am confined to demo mode. I have no ideas where to go from here and Geoff says he is out of ideas as well.

Has anyone else had fun of this sort? If so how did you clear it up?

Dave

Strangely enough I had a similar experience last night whilst testing a n other sim. I had to unallox the licence and also delete the sim and get a new version. That appeared to have solved it.

I've got the same problem as Dave (compounded by the fact that some sims I am testing in .sim format which have previously worked OK are now reporting that I don't have a valid licence).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling system files, re-booting, uninstalling and reinstalling sims, installing the system files in bespoke and default locations and still cannot get things to work beyond demonstration mode. The licence manager resolutely shows that the licences are allocated when I try and run the sim(s) on the respective machines.

I am running XP SP3, but have also tried installing on a netbook running W7 basic and that has the same problem. The only common factors are that both machines are running Microsoft Security Essentials, Comodo firewall and connect to the internet through an unlocked BT Business Hub (2-Wire 2701).

To try and work out the next line of attack, does the sim verify the licence through the Internet or by reading something from the licence manager on the hard drive?

Try getting the Dev to take the license off of you and re-issue it (Shutting down the manager in the process)

Just done that but with no success.

I was having constant PMs with GeoffM over this last night. He did try issuing me a new licence when I didn't have the LM open but to no avail.

A bit of trial and error with John trying to resolve the license not being picked up by the Sim issue. So far I've managed to replicate the problem by deleting a file called common.cfg.

Is should be in a folder :User/public/public documents/SimSig and running License manager places the file there (on Win7 - other paths may differ but there should be a similar location)

However if the "SimSig" folder is missing the file is not created, further tests indicate that it must be retained there and not moved.

Try that and see if it resolves the problem and report back.

Thanks to the work from Peter and Geoff, I think we've got to the root cause. I had previously deleted the SimSig folder from the Shared Documents folder on my XP system which removed the common.cfg file.

I've recovered the folder from the Recycle Bin and everything is now working as expected.

I'm not sure if Dave H has the same problem but the answer seems to be to create a SimSig folder in the Public or Shared Documents folder then let the Licence Manager do its work.

Edit: Further to earlier posting, the W7 netbook is also now working after I created an empty SimSig folder in Public Documents then opened the Licence Manager. Hope this helps anyone else having problems.

Peter & Postal,

Thanks for your help on this. I have gone into "My Computer" on my Windows XP system but have no folders anywhere called "Shared Documents" or "Public Documents". Not sure where they went but I am certain I didn't delete them. So it seems I am missing something vital.

Question now is how to get round that.

Did a quick search for "xp shared documents folder missing" and a number of results came up. There could be a variety of causes, but the most likely seems to be that the desktop.ini file in the \All Users\Shared Documents or \All Users\Documents folder is missing or corrupt. There are a number of links from the search explaining how to re-create or edit the desktop.ini file within that folder. I haven't included any links here as you will probably need to find the solution best tailored to your own system.

Scratching my head a little here. Purchased a licence from the shop for Marylebone. Ran the loader and pointed to the right folders and the sim runs but alas the licence manager doesn't show Marylebone in the list . I have the config file in the SimSig folder in Users\Public Documents but it won't show in licence manager. Confused.com

I keep getting Demo mode and maybe runs for about a minute at most then ping - demo mode has expired

Or am I missing something ?? Do I have to wait for an e-mail with the licence attached ?

Have you had an e-mail confirming licence? Paypal and the Shop have not been talking to each other properly (as per the discussion in this thread). You may need to contact Geoff to sort things out.

Peter / Postal,

Just updated the system files in anticipation of using the new loader files and the following may or may not be unrelated .

My licence(s) for the 4 Scottish Sims I purchased on 17.1.13 seems to have gone haywire . Each sim exe box says the licence for each sim has expired and the licence box for user name and password are empty. To compound the problem I cannot trace my username or password that I have been using for these sims. can you advise what the procedure is for reinstating the licences/username/password.

As an aside I have a SimSig folder on my C drive in my User\Public\Public Documents folder but the SimSig folder does not contain the ini file which has been remarked on - all my folder contains is 3 log text files and a simplifier file and this folder has not been altered by myself

Many thanks

Peter,

Negative - running the Licence manager just brings up a box for username and password requesting me to log in which I cannot do as the boxes are blank and for some reason I have no record of my username and password for the 4 sims purchased. There is also no cfg file produced in the SimSig public documents folder.

I think the Licence manager user name/password should be your usual SimSig forum login. If needed, ask (mods/me) for your password to be reset.

The .cfg file will be produced once you have managed to log in to the Licence Manager.

Thank you - using my forum username & password was the answer!!.

Now all that is left is for the new loader to be compatible with the SimSig folder being on a drive other than C.

Funny thing is that if I try and access the Documents folder you mention, I get a message saying access is denied. Beginning to wonder if a bug has come from somewhere...

Did the process described in the Hotfix for revising permissions to the "Shared Documents" file and created a SimSig folder in it. REstarted, ran the Licence Manager and......... IT WORKS! I no longer get the licence problem!

Thanks all for your help: look forward to my first MP session on Marylebone.
