Some sims have trains due to enter from off sim after the signaller has granted a slot (like trains entering the Carlisle sim from Annan). At Annan there is a slot request from the off-sim box. If that request is ignored or forgotten, the train sits at a signal belonging to the off sim box and will presumably ring to that box rather than the sim box to complain about sitting at the red. That means there is no memory jogger for the sim signaller. In real life, would the off-sim box ring to enquire/remind about the delay? If that is the case would it be a worthwhile enhancement to enable the capability for the external box to make such a call in SimSig? **Edit** On the Carlisle sim there is also the situation at Wigton where there is a radio button to ask Wigton to hold Up trains while Rosewain LC is in use. Again there is no reminder for the sim signaller if he/she forgets to cancel this request after the LC is clear. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 20/08/2013 at 12:10 by postal Log in to reply |

Doesn't Hilton Junction ring in on Edinburgh if you leave a train sat there? I agree it would be a good feature to have on all simulations.

In real life, the reminder would be pretty forthright and quite unmistakeable In the old days there was, of course, the bell signal 1-5-5 ('Shunt train for following train to pass'). No-one I've spoken to could ever see quite what it was intended to do (and the regulation concerning its use is pretty unhelpful too). The only occasion I ever heard of it being used was when someone was being rather slow putting a train inside, when it was used as a sarcastic reminder; I could imagine the same applying in this situation if bells had been in use! I'm having difficulty replicating it for the Loader core code though. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

When I have seen similar situations, the Signalman with the train stood at his signal picking up the phone and letting it ring a couple of times normally gets the slot granted!

I think we have gone slightly off the point - which is that for Sim purposes a reminder that a train is sat at an external entry signal would be useful regardless of how it might work in the real world. It wasn't possible at the time that Carlisle was released to trigger a suitable phone call. One could be added if time permits.
