Is it possible for the sim to be updated to include the redoubling at some point?
I know there have been new signals installed too and chances are a new timetable will have to be written or the existing ones modified.

What are the chances of this happening and the sim being re-released with this update?

Can you supply the re signalling plans? If so it's probably not take very long to do, if not then it'll take rather longer.

Would be nice for this. NR Open rail data project doesn't quite reach signalling systems I don't think, and to be honest, I hope it never does. The sectional appendix is enough.

I should say, thanks for the great sim and when I have enough free cash then I'm looking at the paid sims

Thanks, it's useful (though at the moment the double track is not included) for speeds but not TC breaks and signals etc.

Same - I run from SHU to PAD.

The line closure though has been nice as its allowed a very good reason to work from home! (or get everything done quick and then SimSig as it may have turned out to be)

I remember when it was singled around 1974 I think. Daft really when the rest of the Golden Valley route is double line throughout. Much the same as the North Cotswolds which is being similarly redoubled along most of its length.

I would like to know why just that stretch was singled. I would understand more if it was single from Stroud (or even Standish Jn) to Swindon, with a passing loop at Kemble - would make more sense than just the section that was singled.

The $64,000,000 question. Like so many of the cost cutting exercises of the 60's and 70's it left a lot to be desired

I'm too young to be around for the cuts - have any documents related to them been released? Such as, the why's and any minutes from meetings re the cuts. Would be interesting to hear from an official ministry position why just that section was decided.

I will be back on that line tomorrow, look forward to having a peek at the work as I go past.

Try National Archives in Kew, they hold copies of old WTTs and the like - so maybe also BR board decisions - if that was what it was.

The line was actually singled in summer 1968. The NRO website is a little tricky to find anything official but it was part of the rationalisation of the entire route after the closure of the Tetbury and Cirencester Town branches from Kemble. The actual proposal was to single the entire line between Standish Junction and Loco Yard (Swindon) Junction but a protest saw BR stop at the section between Swindon and Kemble which is why it was only that section. I remember from my school days going out on a trip to Purton Brick Works which had a crossing across the line and now I think about it I remember the men working there were removing semaphore signals so I'm guessing it was being converted to Colour Light around '74.

Quite possibly removing redundant stuff then from the dormant Down Line. There were definitely semaphores there though.
